The hinges have broken on our compass omega battery box.
We have got mixed advice from shops on ebay, so I thought I'd best check with the experts 😉
My husband thinks it's a sealed unit and we need to replace the whole thing, sellers on ebay say we can replace just the door.
Does it come apart?
Is it easy to replace the insert if we can't find one to match our van?
We need quite a few parts, lots of leaks and maintenance needed before winter, so ideally we need a good shop or breakers.
Hi Linda and welcome to the forum. I'm no Compass expert but I have had some issues with my battery box in the past.
The box itself is likely to be an off-the-shelf item from another manufacturerr that makes them for loads of different caravan and motorhome manufacturers like BCA Group stuff, (look at pages in the late 30's to see a range of battery boxes available).
However, you don't say what specific part is broken, ie., the door hinge or pin or the bit of hinge on the box or both. If the hinge pins or door are the only bits broken then they can be purchased and fitted, but if both hinge parts are broken you will need the whole unit, new or second hand.

To remove door, you need to open it 180 degrees to hang vertical, the hinge pins have a 'key/lug' (security device to stop pin being removed with door closed) on them that only aligns with the key slot in that position, then simply push/pull them out. You may need to 'wiggle' door slightly to find precise point key and key slot align. Be careful to support door as you remove first pin or it will drop and risks breaking other hinge! - a 3 handed job!
Recently replaced my battery box door, and struggled to get ALL the necessary details from manufacturers/supplies! The door may fit OK, BUT the lock barrel hole varies and may not suit your existing barrel if you wish to carry on using a common key, I gave up and got a new barrel and different key!
They are available separately. Although PLS don’t sell direct to the public, I put it there to show you can get them without buying the whole battery box.
We recently replaced the whole battery box and it was about £140.00 or thereabouts.
