Hi,

I am unsure if I've posted this in the right place. I would like to know if people are allowed to stay on any types of caravan sites all year or are there times when people aren't allowed to stay at the location?

I really require somewhere to live because of having no soundproofing in this property.

Thanks

if soubdproofing is what you need most in a home then i suggest finding something else as a caravan is not the best of things to cut the noise down

There is no hard and fast rule regarding how long you can stay at any particular campsite. It usually depends on the site licence. It's not uncommon for sites to be licenced for 10 months of the year in order to prevent permanent occupation. Its really a question of checking with each site. If you have an area in question the search facility on this site will point you to most sites nearby.

If you are having problems where you live because of noisy neighbours, have you tried asking your local Citizens' Advice what action you can take to get the noise stopped, or reduced? It is a long winded process, but the local council can take action if the noise is unreasonable, and could be a better solution in the long run.

Officially the only type of site that you are allowed to live on is a proper residential site in what are usually referred to as Park Homes. These are lovely but expensive.

Touring sites are not licenced for residential use but I'm sure there are many who turn a blind eye. The only other type of site is a holiday park with static caravans. These are not licenced for permanent living either but I know there are people who do live on them. Both touring sites and holiday parks do not offer much in the way of security, and I would advise a lot of research and a great deal of caution if you are thinking of going down that route.

As Marg6 says, caravans are not the best things to be in if you want somewhere soundproof. They can be quite noisy places to be in if you have "the wrong neighbours". They are not very soundproof at all. Proper Park Homes are probably the best, but I doubt whether even they could match bricks and mortar in respect of soundproofing.

Best Regards,
Colin

The problem is that there is not a single room in this flat that the noise doesn't travel to and it is really affecting things. At the moment I'm even thinking of staying in the car. I'm looking at anything really, so any ideas on what else if not a caravan? My partner has access to some land but it doesn't have any planning permission. if we bought a caravan, would there be a way around staying there at least a few days a week. It would be good to have somewhere to go to escape this property and even be able to stay there overnight.

ok so if even just a few days away a week is enough to save your sanity then there are plenty of sites that are open all year long, if you take a look in the site search section then select all the required sub sections and the area you want to be in then you should find something that suits, but you would then require a car that can actually tow and also somewhere to store the caravan when back at home

If you only want to stay a few nights a week and want to keep a touring caravan sited on a pitch that you can come and go from whenever you want, then you are looking for a seasonal pitch. Some sites like this open for 12 months of the year, but others open for shorter periods of time, usually closing over the winter. Each site is different but the most common season length I have found is from 1st March to 31st October.

Some of these sites have restrictions on the length of time you can stay before you have to leave for a few days. For example, some of the sites that we have been looking at, don’t allow you to stay for more than 21 or 28 days before having to leave for two days before returning. You don’t have to move the Caravan, you just can’t stay in it for longer than a certain period of time without taking a break. Something that we have also noticed this year when looking at seasonal pitches is that some sites have moved to a maximum 100 days rule, where you can stay as long as you like in a row, and whenever you like during the time that they are open, however, over the course of the whole season, you’re not allowed to stay for more than 100 nights in total.

If all you want is a break from noise at home for a few days each week then this type of site would be ideal as they are designed for regular short breaks. I’ve been researching this type of site for over a year now and they range in price from around £1800 (although these are few and far between) up to over £5000 for the season. The average in the area where I am looking (NW England) seems to be around £3000.

However, something to note is that almost all seasonal sites have metered electricity on the pitches which means that you have to factor that into the price as well. Many sites have to pay business tariffs on electric so their price per kWh is much higher that you would pay at home. I am on a few seasonal pitch internet groups and the average daily cost of electricity in the current cold weather seems to be coming in at around £10 a day, most of which is from heating the caravan. In the summer, when you don’t need heat, this would obviously be much cheaper.

I would think that if you left a caravan on a vacant piece of land, the probability of it being there a week later is extremely low. Plus of course it not being damaged.

The other issue is of course if you go off somewhere nice and quiet for a week, on your return the noise level will appear to be even worse.

I know its far easier said than done, but i would never, ever live in a flat. Especially if its an older building. I would say your short term solution is a seasonal site if you can get one near enough to where you want/need to reside. The longer term, is move home. Its ok folk saying get the noise stopped, but 95% of the time this route just does not work for most, and its incredibly lengthy to go down.

Neighbourly noise would do my head in, so you have my sympathies.

Thanks, it is something to look into. Where do I start? Is it a matter of searching for things on this site? I haven't even got a caravan as yet

Hi, do you mean the prices to actually stay there? I haven't even got a caravan as yet. These people only moved in downstairs a day ago and up till then we had a bit of peace. It makes you really feel desperate when you can't put up with someone else's noise. I've been really depressed about it. Tried speaking to the council about it in the past. They won't soundproof anywhere although they are happy to keep replacing kitchen units and stuff like that whenever residents come to live there.

This is what I was thinking of doing. Looking at it as a short term solution whilst looking for somewhere else. This noise puts you off living in these type of properties. Everyone should be allowed to have some quiet. If there was a single room where you could shut out the noise it would be something. I've still got to look for a site and a caravan though. Appreciate you replying though

The bare bones of something like this is going to cost you towards 10K. The caravan - for anything remotely worth having will be 2-3k; remember, you are spending a fair bit of time in it, so it wants to be half-decent. A car to pull it - same price. And a seasonal pitch; easily 3k. Have you got this sort of money in your back pocket?

But, on the other hand; you've said the noise has only been going on a day or so. It may settle right down. Is it a big flat? Is there a chance of doing one of these 'swaps' that seem to be a thing nowadays?

Some council owned sites do 12 months, some 11 etc, the latter require you to move off the site for a while.
There are also some private site which do 12 months, its a case of asking in your local area facebook pages or doing a paper search, putting the area you're interested in on here would have been beneficial to you.
