I am looking at the sprite alpine 4 as a replacement for my current caravan. I find the alpine looking a bit to basic.would like a lightweight caravan, fixed bed,end bathroom. Apart from the eriba, which again, I may consider, i cannot come up with any more ideas, I would maybe prefer second hand, but also considering new.

Our previous caravan was a Bailey Orion 430-4. It had a fixed French bed and a rear washroom and was 1249kg.

It was a great caravan and the only reason we changed was because I really wanted Alde heating as the blown air was causing my asthma to flare up.

Bailey haven’t made the Orion for several years but their nearest new equivalent is the Discovery D4-4. However there are still plenty of second hand Orions about.

Look at a dealer special based on the Alpine 4. These have upgraded seating and many extras depending on which dealer you go to. Ours has microwave, 100W solar panel, air conditioning, alarm ect. New this year and towed. Approx 3000 miles towed and faultless If you have end fixed bed you will have side washroom. We wanted nice big washroom but don't like fixed beds waste of daytime space so got the 2 berth, where if you don't want to make up bed can sleep 2 singles .

Having discussions at home with my partner on 2 berths.we now tend to sleep seperate with making the double up and using the fixed bed.i find the made up bed gives me back ache and my partner does not want a duvalay, so the French bed has worked so far.we have been putting off buying another caravan for a few years and covid did not help. So will revalue some of your suggestions. At the moment my caravan is in storage in France, so would like to take the replacement to France and bring my 2008 lunnar quazar EB home where it will just about fit in garage and just use for uk trips.

Never thought about classes of vechile on the french toll roads, so that is food for thought. I would like to buy a used caravan and my other half a new one, so will end up at the nec I suppose, even if we come away and not buy, it will give me a clearer picture on the used van I would prefer. I am conscious of seeing nice new caravans and have walked away before , but if we don't buy soon the money could end up going elsewhere, and I am 71 and aim to stay touring, my partner I am not to sure. The dealers are of course want credit arrangement and a part ex.

Can you elaborate on this please. Not toured France since pre-covid, and this 'classe' thing never came into my thinking. What is it?

Regarding pre covid, the decision was put off, as we were not caravaning much with restrictions, so was put decisions on the back burner. The class issue was regarding the toll roads in france. It looks like the trigano silver caravan is low enough for class one payment as against the usual standard caravan maybe attracts class 2 payment
