I'm more inclined towards Ian's point of view, their abysmal implementation of the 'new' website (it's a bought in package, rather than a custom job for the club!) does rather imply their in house IT/contracted IT management is well below standards acceptable for an organisation of this scale and wealth! No one with any insight into that implementation, and there have been quite a few with professional knowledge of such operations, were impressed, or accepting it was anything like normal or inevitable, it was very badly done!
That makes me far more cynical that IT security was of an appropriate standard, and this cyberattack was an incident waiting to happen! Hardly seems likely that one of the highly skilled 'dubious nations' or criminal gangs notoriously often behind disruption to major industries is behind this, more likely some kid honing his skills, and that truly would be unforgivable.
As to massive improvements to a reworked website as an outcome, really don't see that happening, the website package is bought in from another sector of the holiday industry and 'tweaked' within its inherent constraints to suit CAMC and it's market sector, and it has to be said it's a pretty poor fit! Don't expect to see much different from the customer facing side of things!
This morning, most of the website is back, the mobile app is to follow asap it seems.
As to how much if any of our personal data has been 'robbed' remains to be revealed.
Pretty sorry state of affairs, not overly inclined to easily forgive, especially if wider reaching consequences come to light, but it does fit quite snugly in with the club's rather arrogant indifference to members that's been the norm for past few years!
Those who have voiced sympathies, often seem to be completely unaware of the technicalities, and equally overlook the legal duty of care that organisations have to protect our data which they hold, which often far exceeds their needs to provide the core service they sell, but is geared to marketing other services that are profitable to them! Do CAMC need your car registration, etc. etc. to sell you a camping pitch! - no, this is customer profiling for other purposes, and that data may now well have been circulated to dubious agents as a comprehensive personal record of you!
