Hi, the grill in our caravan lights but the flame is just down the centre and is totally pathetic at grilling even a piece of bread..it takes forever and barely browns it. Seems like the flame doesn't get hot enough and when turned up to full heat the flame doesn't change size.
Any ideas please?

Got to agree with above post, they are inherently rubbish, nothing necessarily actually wrong with it (beyond not being at all efficient! - mine's been checked by service engineers and declared working OK!), it's the way they (all!) are!

Can't compare with domestic grill, which are generally quite useful!

Want toasted bread, use an electric toaster, or one of those tent camping toasters that go on a hob. Want to grill meat etc., forget it, you won't live long enough to see it cooked!!!!!

Truly a pointless appliance IMHO! Use it for warming plates (with heat from main oven), storage space for pans, etc. ANYTHING BUT a grill!

we must be one of the lucky ones as ours works just aswell as the grill at home, i can cook on it not just make toast, mainly used for bacon

OK, thanks for the replies...our last caravan, also a Lunar, had a grill that worked fine. This one just doesn't seem to have any flame beyond the central piece and the flames don't spread beyond that. Maybe it's just a rubbish grill then. A toaster will be the next addition to our camping paraphernalia!

I bought a camping toaster to use on the hob, the flat type not the pyramid type.

Ours was good for a lot of years and then went pathetic, we had a new burner assembly fitted, this sorted it

Our grill went the same way.
Turned out to be a blockage in the gas feed pipe. Taken off and given a good blow through with an air line when the garage man wasn't looking, problem solved!

We recently had our van serviced, and it was noticed that the grill went out when all the other appliances were on gas e.g. oven, hobs and fridge.
Not a worry to me, as this does not normally occur when only the grill is on.

As a previous CORGI registered installer myself, I agreed with the service engineer that the possible cause was that the gas pipe was only 8mm, and it would have been better to be 10mm.

Not sure that I fancy going to the trouble of increasing the size to avoid an eventuallity that may possibly not happen.

Had this with a portable gas grill. Used a compressed air line to blow backwards from the jet. That blew whatever the blockage was away.
Fingers crossed it stays that way.

We tried our grill once and never again as they are useless and a waste of gas!
