My towcar is a Ford Kuga PHEV, which I usually charge at home, but I'm going caravanning for 3 weeks. Can I charge my car from a 10A site supply, obviously using the appropriate plug.

Almost a universal NO direct from EHU point!

Some sites will allow EV charging via the caravan standard internal 13A socket outlets, BUT, often for an additional charge!

A very few sites do actually have dedicated EV charging points.

Probably the most common view is take the vehicle to the nearest town with a EV charging station.

There is no 'standard' arrangement as yet, every site potentially differs.

Q. Can I charge my electric vehicle (EV) on a Club Site pitch?

A. At this time the Club allows you to charge an EV on a pitch, whether it’s a car or a light mobility scooter. However, you must not charge your vehicle directly from the site’s electric hook-up bollard as it was not designed for this. The relevant standards state the bollard should only be used to provide power to leisure accommodation via a single 25m long lead. Once your caravan or motorhome is connected to the bollard you can trickle charge the vehicle’s battery from a three-pin 13A socket in or on the caravan or motorhome.
Some other site operators (including those on the Certified Sites (CS) network) may operate differently so please ask on arrival.

A lot of CL's have already posted " NO EV CHARGING" and publishing details of nearest public charge points.
CAMC will allow you for around £9 a day extra!

Just as a matter of interest, we have a small ev which I charge at home from a 3pin socket. I asked a local electrician to install an external socket specifically for this. Using the granny charger it draws maximum 10 amps, or if necessary, I can reduce this to 6 amps.

Slow recharge, yes, but that is better for the battery. It also means it could quite happily re charge through the caravan electrics, provided the site owner ishappy.

The other consideration is, whatever the EV is drawing from the EHU is NO LONGER available for any other use in the caravan! You'd probably have to disconnect the EV to use a lot of the heavy duty electrical stuff in the caravan!
If on a 10A charge, you'll only have around a TOTAL of 1.4kW appliance load available in the caravan, that may be JUST an electric kettle OR toaster OR Microwave, with the leisure battery charger/12v supply also in the background!

Not normal, but we went to a site near Whitby which had an EV charging point. Otherwise you take the car to the nearest charging point. All CLs will have this info.

The OP mentions a 10A site supply. If that's the case there won't be any power left at all for items in the caravan.

Many sites are 10A only.

I’m pretty sure that you can use the site search function to find sites that have charging points. The independent site at Aberlour has one, there was always a car plugged in so people had to watch for it coming available.
At least with a PHEV, you’ve got petrol too.

Can't find a filter for EV charging point on UKCS's Search Function, and I can't see a list of sites with EV charging points.

Perhaps we should request for them via Site Feedback - I'll do that as it keeps cropping up now that EVs are more and more popular.

Strange because when I loaded up the information for a site recently, for Admin to put into the Directory, I could have ticked that box.

A lot of sites have a TT style incoming power supply that isn't really that suitable for vehicle charging.

There are more charging points about now so it shouldn't be difficult to find one. Not a big deal,with a plug in hybrid.
After all there aren't fuel stations on campsites!

I charge my plug in hybrid through my caravan when i put my van on the drive at home, So no issue charging it.

as its only a plug in hybrid just plug it in at night when you go to bed it'll be charged up by the morning

Advantage of a hybrid. We have a self charging one so no plug in needed.
It has a higher towing limit than the plug in.

Just wondering what happens as most houses are TNC-S so is home charger set up for TNC-S but caravan site is TT.
