Hello,
I have a Bailey Pageant Series 5 that needs some wall panels replacing. Furniture need to come out first. It is fixed with Tri-wing screws, a bit like a posidrive cross head but with 3 points, not 4. Any idea what tool I need or why they are used? I have 4 tri-wing drivers but none fits, the 'wings' are too thick. I have managed to turn, but they don't come out, just turn in situ. Any help or idea most welcome. Thank you
You can see the head here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/13uygcdw2qepbjev0mf1e/2024-07-02-17.05.29.jpg?rlkey=z3hs6be2p6u72bv9xb0dxp819&dl=0
I have unfortunately had water ingress trouble and had to replace a few of these items to get the overhead lockers out to gain access. They are not screws, they look like them but are indeed wide headed rivets. You will need to drill them out and replace them when your panel work is done.
Have a look here These tri wing, tri fold or tri grip rivets are available in many places by mail order.

they are not screws ,they are rivets, and wont come out by screwing , you need to drill off the head, to get them off the little bracket.
but --- why not just take out the bottom screw to get them apart, unless the board at the back is the one you want to replace, then ,fair enough ,drill off the head and put new rivets in the new board
Thanks guys. Who'd have thought it! So does the blind side poke into the foam behind the panel? Standard rivet gun? What's the point of the three slots that make it look like a screw? Help much appreciated.
Yes, they are just fairly standard pop rivets but with a much larger head, plus the length of the three arm that fold back is variable to suit differebt thicknesses of material they are used in.
The three slots don't appear on all makes of rivet, some are completely flat, I suppose it's just the make Bailey use. I was similarly foxed when I was trying to remove mine if it helps any?

The 3 slots cause the rivet body to split/splay widely into 3 'arms' behind the panel when set, this spreads the load over a wider area than a standard pop rivet which has a tendency to burst the hole in soft materials and can easily be pulled out as a consequence. Very similar principle to plasterboard screw fixing 'rawlplugs'. If you see one that's been 'set', all should be clear.
Initially it will poke into the foam behind the panel, but will be drawn back towards the panel upon setting.
Standard rivet gun should be fine so long as a nose piece to match mandrel diameter is available.
Thanks, everyone. I eventually found these:

They were cheap and had a 10mm head size, perfect to replace the ones I drilled out. Delivery was quick, too.
Glad you got things sorted and returned to update the results. This will assist anyone who has a similar problem later on and searches for the answer on this forum.
