Hi all, we have decided to sell our van, sudden change of plans for us. Just watched a you tube video explaining things are not good for selling but good for buying - we have always went new and trade in
The “we buy” type people have offered us 5-7k below online valuation
Any thoughts or advice appreciated

The "we buy" people, if they get back to you, will offer way below the trade price.

If it's a fairly new van, say 2022, they don't want it because it will cost them too much money and they won't make enough off of it.
Steer well clear!

The market for caravans just now is fairly stagnant, but buoyant in the motorhome sector.

To get anything like what you're after, you will need to p/x.
Unless you're willing to dour it out in the private market.

Couple of dealerships disappeared lately. May be try going to the place you bought it? Some years ago a friend of ours sold their van through their supplying dealer for a commission.

The “we buy” type people will always offer far less than market value, and often you don't get what they initially offer either. They tend to make an offer online or on the phone, then when you turn up say "it isn't as good as we expected" and offer you even less.

Buying and selling caravans does tend to be seasonal. Sell in spring, buy in autumn/winter is the way to go. Prices will always be higher at times people are thinking about holidays, and lowest when Christmas is on most peoples' minds.

Yes - appreciate not the best time of year to sell, an option has come up for us that leaves us no choice
Paying 600 storage to sell is an option I’m considering
The value of our van is circa 25k
Might not be a lot of buyers out there with that sort of money - paying 31 to a retailer might be more attractive
Ours is a 2022 van, I guess the warranty from coachman will be transferrable

We were thinking of selling our caravan, but it is not a seller's market at present and probably will not be for another 2 - 3 years especially if sites keep hiking their prices and we have tax increases.

hi Ian, I guess prices are settling out where they were pre-covid

Ours has a lot of extras and im selling it with a lot of Kit thrown in. So with the price 2k under book plus extras I hope to get it sold. If not then it will be a good day for the "we-buy" people.

Things are probably not that bad this time of year as people are still in holiday mode. It starts to get tougher to sell by the end of September and into October. November/December is the time to pick up a bargain.

We just changed our van and got a reasonable deal. We were offered quite a lot more for it in March but didn't see one we wanted.
The trade in was a year older but the new van had been reduced . They also gave us a discount on a mover and fitting external gas and electric outlets.
We have had a few vans from them over many years.
The salesman said motorhomes were doing well caravans not so.
When we collected ours last week he said they had sold a few caravans!
They were all reduced.
Our new van was spotless and we were given a thorough handover.
Thanks to all the team at Cosford Caravans. We have always had great service from them.

At the end of May we sold our motorhome back to the dealer we purchased it from in 2019. We were reasonably happy with what we were offered given that selling it any other way could have been stressful! Interestingly two months later they still have it for sell for £10000 more than they paid us but the point is after two months they have not sold it at the price they are asking which was virtually the same as we paid five years ago. I keep an eye on it just to see if they reduce it, which if they do, makes the price we got an even better deal?

Dave I suspect that 10k delta will be room for a discount for the next buyer and they still make 5k - who knows
I’ve tried dealers, no joy
- I seem to have one genuine enquiry which will give me a couple of K more than “we buy” - never been into selling private, especially a caravan but giving it go LOL
It’s a really good van with nice options so a genuine good buy for somebody willing to buy private

Our caravan we traded in 15 months ago for another new one is still on the dealers forcourt. We had it from new and is a totally immaculate family caravan. Only reason for changing was downsizing. It is now for sale at £300 less than traded in price.
