Been advised tow hitch locks should not be used when towing in case of accident. Should I use a lock pin through the Winterhoff W3000 instead of the Saracen lock to prevent it unhitching during travel or is it not necessary?

not neccessary, what happens in an emergency? they couldnt get them apart if you used anything

Thanks for your reply.. Recently bought caravan some hitches have separate lock when connecting to tow ball.. W3000 closes over the tow ball, appears to be spring loaded mechanism holding it in place. Was concerned this might spring open during travel,

we have the same one, and its perfectly fine, no lock required or even thought about using due to the safety issue

The only time I'd use a lock is when parked up, at the services one of us stays with the car while the other buys whatever we need.
