As above. We.are planning to use our van over winter if we can find sites open in South West Scotland.
How do we keep our aqua roll etc from freezing and any other tips would be appreciated.
I'm writing this from a beautiful part of the world this morning. Callander   in Scotland and planning to move on to Loch Lomond.
September iv discovered is a nice month for touring, some lovely sun ups and sunsets but cooler so not the feasting on me from midges that I had in July. If you are scottish, you may sympathise.
For the first.time we have had heating on overnight at.low. and that's what made me think about things we may need to know using the van when it's really freezing.

its not the barrel that you need to worry about its the pump/pipe, which at a certain time we just bring in, after making sure the kettle is full ready for the morning. gas we use red, doesnt freeze as quickly as the blue, put the vent covers on the fridge. and run the heating just about all the time

If your van uses blow-air heating. look underneath to see if any of the ducting runs outside under the floor in places. If so, a lot of heat can be lost between the fire and the outlets so insulate as much as possible. There are many ways to do this from expensive flexible foam tubing to cheap silver bubble wrap strip on a roll. If using the latter give it a couple of layers and also use the aluminium duct tape to make a nice neat job.

You’ll find plenty of choice in SW Scotland. We’re there regularly. As said, Silvercraigs is open all year but check the Site Search for all the others; some might be CLs. It’s a part of the Scotland that’s notably lush & mild, so we’ve never had a problem with that kind of deep freezing there, especially if you keep near the coast. (Obviously, be prepared. Can’t advise how as we have a MH not Aqua roll.)
October is lovely too, but further north: blue skies & snowy peaks. But be aware that winter means much shorter days than down south: light by 10, dark starts at 3. Flip side is endless days at the height of summer if you’re far north (I’ve read my book outside at midnight at Ullapool while the dog got her walk without a torch.)
Loch Lomond has a few sites as you’ll know, but you need a permit for staying off site within the national park.

Greenloch House CL near Castle Douglas is open all year, lovely situation on a peninsula in a loch. You need to be a caravan club member and be self contained, no loos or showers.

You can buy insulated covers for the aquaroll and pump (the Maypole one is £19 on Ebay or £14 from Alixpress). I would also recommend a small oil filled radiator (eg 800w) which you can leave on low overnight with no fan noise.

The fan noise doesn't bother me as I sleep.with earplugs. Husband is a snorer., but I have one of them that I think is a 500w ?

We love it there. Especially like the fact you can choose your own pitch. Downside is our van is really too.small to use without our awning which is not suitable for winter. Now we have a few months experience we would like a bigger van but would.also need a bigger car.
