No need to guess - a 'porch awning' is in fact an awning.  The clue was in the description!!

Sorry Steve, haven't seen or heard of the Contempo as yet.

I did notice that the new 'August' (getting a bit ahead of ourselves here?) edition of PC magazine is reviewing the Sunncamp Scenic Plus and gives it a full five stars.  We have one and rate it pretty highly ourselves.

am likewise very interested and have digested PC's comments and also visited Barron's today where they have there own brand very similar in size etc, slightly cheaper. I also note that Homestead are advertising again very similar type and even cheaper. Will be visiting Camping International later in week to see what they have to offer. I beleive there is a German manufactured version on the market which has had good reports but can't remember the name. Have decided that a lightweight porch awning would suit us as only 2 of us and don't really need full awning or the aggro of carting it about and erecting it. Am interested in any comments..........Mick

It's Herzog Mistral. Jeff Bowen Awnings sell them. Mine came from A&M leisure in Beds. I love it. I saw someone on site with a Sunncamp Scenic Plus and I was quite impressed by it (I had heard a few mixed reports about the quality of the ordinary Scenic) I think the Herzog material/finish is maybe slightly better

hi there, we purchased a full suncamp awning and had our first outing with it recently, we found it to be excellent value for money, made of good quality materiels and stayed dry(no leaks) in a good down pour. If the porch awning is as good as the full awning cant see there being a problem. We have also seen the review in PC magazine and it seems to be the one to buy.

My sister just got one and was  away for the weekend with it.   She says that hubby had it up in 10 mins and that it was massive.   She was well pleased with the performance as it rained heavily overnight and there were no leaks. Pegging out is easy as there's only about 14 to do,   with the awning being deeper it came out further than the hardstanding pitch onto the grass so at least a third of the pegs went into the grass.   The photos don't do justice to the size,  it's really roomy and bright inside and all the windows have curtains with velcro fastening.   It's also straighter at the front than it looks in the pictures giving you more headheight.

We've got one. We bought it off ebay much cheaper than elsewhere, but still brand new. We took it away last weekend, and it was up and pegged in 15 mins. Absolutely fab. It withstood a downpour and some wind, and best of all, hubby and I dont have to get divorced now, as we are no longer getting clonked on head with heavy poles, whilst having half a ton of wet awning whipping round our legs like our last attempt at putting up our other awning.

Hi I purchased a Contempo awning a couple of weeks ago took it out last weekend and was really impressed .It really does go up in ten minutes and is so easy my grandaughter who is 7 and myself put it up alone with no problem at all  even with my arthritic hands and the size is impressive a little over 9 feet square and plenty of headroom  ,it packs down into a small nylon  holdall .we were very pleased with it and now two lots of my friends are getting one  because it is so light and easy to handle.

hi i purchased a suncamp 260 late last august and found it a breeze to erect and peg down massive inside and well  constructed, only major fault is i rushed and didnt measure my van height first we have an elldis tornado xl and due to the sloping roof ie lower rail height i couldnt get the sides of the awning to fit close to the van leaving it gaping open either side, what a nightmare!! so i'm now about to ebay it and try to find a porch that will fit my elldis, being the cheaper option rather than replacing the van lol.

I think I saw this at the NEC and I was very impressed with the headroom which was much better than my ordinary 'dome' porch awning.

wish i had seen this post earlier just bought the contempo today and we have an elddis firestorm and yes the sloping roof start from the centre of door but think we might get away with it with this awning if not we will just put it to the right of the door not a perfect solution but still gives the room for tables etc and somewhere to sit, all that said is there any awnings (porch) made to fit vans withe the doors and roof like this if not then the makers of vans should consider this when making them

i bought a contempo 3000 in spring 2009

ok its very easy to put up  and plenty of room in it.Thats was just what i thought i wanted

but when it rianed it was absolutly hopeless all the water gathered on the roof

you had too keep lifting the roof by hand to shed the water or it would have collapsed

his must be one of the worst awnings on the market

The smaller models look to be much better than this model

I've said this elsewhere, but we've gone for the Kampa Fiesta.  It looks really good.  Quality looks better than most lightweights.  Will be trying it out over half term and then will report back.  I'm cautiously optimistic.

Our Van rail height appears to be lower than most ,and the curve of the front which starts just in front of the door gives us the same gape at the sides. This is why I pitch on ramps whenever I can.
Happy Porch hunting
