Im sorry Tim, but you are obviously not a good LGV (vehicles ofer 7.5 T have not been called HGV since the old king died; they are 'Large Goods Vehicles')to offer such advice.


 

The first quote was meant toungue in cheek, and yes, I know they are called LGV but many people still know them as HGVs and take LGV to mean light goods vehicle. They have only been known as LGV since 1999 (off the top of my head)

Ive had my driving criticised by many "road captains" in the past it really hurts my feelings, LOL!!!

Ok, sorry about that! Of course, your all right. To drive close enough with a caravan to be affected by the slip stream would be too close. I did once have a very old nissan patrol diesel that had a collapsed fuel line. On the motorway the only way of stopping it from starving of fuel was to  follow a lorry, maybe only a second away. The decreased drag allowed the engine to use less fuel, and so not starve itself. 10 seconds of normal driving at 56 mph would see the engine lose power and come to a shuddering stop. This wasnt a regular thing, just occasional to get me off the motorway. The fault could not be traced and when MOT time came up the old dinosaur was scrapped. What a beast that was, extremely powerful, when it worked.
