Many thanks for your replies - you've given us plenty to think about. We did wonder about using the ordinary awning, minus sides and front, but thought it might be a problem in windy conditions,
Any type of canopy will be a problem in windy conditions. I had an Omnistor on my motorhome, I used to peg the legs down and also used extra guys, but if it was windy I soon learnt to wind it in to avoid any catastrophes.
We use the screw in dog lead holders on our trailer tent awning and the gazabo never had any problems when windy. rachet straps too**. you buy them both very cheap.4 rachet straps for a £5 and screw in lead holders for as little has a £1 each.
