Hi     Yes we are thinking of going away. We changed our van in Nov. and are keen to get out in the new one. There are lots of carvan sites open with all weather hardstanding pitches ..like Wareham Forest. or caravan club sites such as Clumber Park but I might leave it a bit to see haw the weather turns out. The problem is the best sites still get booked up for half tern even in Feb.

Pete

As a teacher I like to get away at February half term - we normally go to Edinburgh CC site as it is only about 20 miles away so not too far if the weather gets rough.

This year however some of our friends in Aberdeenshire have just had a new baby so we are going to see them - staying in a friends orchard as the site we normally use is closed.

Lets hope it doesn't snow as we will be 200 miles from home!!

Hi lots of sites are open all Year now, we have been out and about in Nov, Dec and plan to go again soon and all through Feb.

Last Year we went to Bainlands at Woodhall the week before half term and we were told they are always fully booked in half term, so if you are going I would look at booking it soon as it seems many that are open get booked up.

Hi norrisr9 we booked at Searles once a couple of years ago for a bank holiday sent my deposit of around 10% (£15.00) and within a few weeks they demanded the whole cost for the weekend in advance. I phoned them and told them I had sent a deposit and had entered a contract to say that I would be there but they got snotty. I eventually wrote to them and explained that I am not booking a static with them just renting a piece of grass for 3 days. However if they feel they want the money up front I will send them a cheque for around a £100+. They wrote back a couple of days later and said they had cancelled my booking. A couple of days after that they wrote to me asking If I would donate some items for prizes that they could raffle during the bank holiday weekend. I was absolutely fuming and rang them to give Mr Searle a piece of my mind but spoke to some young guy instead. I demanded my money back and the dozy idiots didnt send my deposit but instead sent the cost of the whole holiday back to me - I felt though I should send them back the difference. Did I heck I cashed their cheque and spent it staight away and had a great weekend on a cheaper site - The point I was trying to make is that we should not have to pay for a service or comodity up front before we use it - what does everyone else say! about that

I agree in part - It does seem wrong to pay outright for goods and services in advance.

However, you usually have to 'accept' the booking terms when you make your booking and send your deposit - so you would expect to have to abide by whatever terms they had stipulated - which no doubt stated that payment in full was required and you therefore agreed to the contract.

I think that unless their contract terms were 'unfair' and you could demonstrate this in legal proceedings, then you wouldn't have any argument with them.

Plenty of caravan parks require full payment up front.  If you don't like this arrangement, then just be careful to check it out before you agree to book.  It is one of the advantages of the CC and CC&C that they don't require payment in full up front. (not even a deposit at the CC at the moment).

You were lucky to get the money over-refunded - but perhaps it was a small price for them to pay to rid themselves of an awkward customer!!  So, hopefully both parties are happy with the outcome!

Awkward customer ulti-mates is an unfair branding. At no time when I placed the deposit was it stated that I had to pay in full. No mention in the advert either. In fact would you pay in full for your car, or any thing up front before you have even seen it. They said I might default and not turn up but I would never do that it is dishonest. Over the years I am afraid I have become hardened to the fact fact you get ripped off if you rely on other peoples honesty it has happened to me too many times. I broke my own cardinal rule just a couple of months ago and purchased something off Ebay paid my money up front - never seen the item or money again even after reporting it to Ebay. It is a sad world we live in - people dont trust you and you dont trust them what is the answer. I now ask if a deposit is all that is required, that is dependant on whether I book or not - some places doesn't require a deposit.
