Rip Off !!!! When my wife's father passed away, a few years ago, my mother in law decided to buy a static on the south coast. We had it for three seasons and had to sell to the site owner. The van cost £10,000 new, on site and hooked up to the domestic facilities and the ground rent was £750 a year. There was no re-hire to anyone else and family had to be booked in to the site in advance on arrival. We knew the condition and where happy to comply. There where some minor faults with the van and we went through hell trying to get the site owner, who was responsible for repairs, to get these sorted. At the end of the first season, we received a letter explaining the the ground rent was to be increased for the following season, £1000 a year. We again decided to absorb these costs and went with it. Still we waited for the repairs and we where getting to a stage where the only time we heard from the site owners was when they wanted something. We had good times at the van and enjoyed the quality time by the sea. Towards the end of the second season we received another notification of a ground rent rise, £1250 and this was the last straw. We decided it would be cheaper to go on holiday than pay up this money. We tried to advertise the van and asked for a reasonable amount for a two year old van. No luck, we beleive the site owner was sabotaging our efforts as we had to advertise through his company, in the small print. To cut a long storey short, we had to sell to the site owner for half the value of the van when we bought it. We lost just over £5000 on the van. The gutless had our van sold two week later and charged the new tennant £780 ground rent. The information came via a lovely couple who we had met on the site, so I cannot confirm the details. My advise, BE VERY CAREFUL, and be prepared to loose money should you decide to move on.
