Hi Bluey

Problem with buying at the show is that the dealer is probably not anywhere near where you live so you could have to travel a long way to collect it and to have it serviced. You also have to take their offer on your part exchange at the show and they might alter the price when they see the van.

The deals can sometimes be good but if you go back to your local dealer with the same details then I suspect they will match it particularly if they are not represented at the show. We have done this on two occasions and got a better deal.

Don't go at the weekend if you can help it. It is packed and a job to get into the vans. We go and look, get an idea of what we want and then go and look at the van at the dealers where you can spend as much time looking at it as you like.

We once ordered a van at the show and paid the deposit, went home and then decided that we had fallen for the sales patter. Went back the next day and cancelled the order. We did get our deposit back, fortunately. Then went to out local dealer and ordered at our leisure.

Not going this year as we are off in our new van although will miss the accessories stands!!

Hope this helps

Weve been to the nec caravan show  most years, it is good to go & browse at the new vans etc, also you can pick up some gr8 gadgets for camping & caravanning, we bought a Skillet years ago for cooking meals in in the Trailer tent, the same lady is still selling them there  at almost the same price, only problem for her is they dont wear out very quick, good for us though

I don't think I could make such a major choice, nor concentrate properly on the negotiations in the show environment.

I know plenty of other folks have come away from the shows having ordered a van - often when they had no intention of doing so - but I don't think I could do the same.

When we bought our van, we sat in it at the dealership for long enough that it began to feel like 'ours' before the deal was done!  And we didn't get distracted by hoardes of other people poking about in it at the same time.

Mr Ulti-mates loves the shows.  He particularly likes to buy all those gizmos that are 'demonstrated' performing wonders and which are never quite as impressive when you get home.  I think the same applied when he chose me!

Just browsing has led me to purchase a motorhome- in the past a caravan- two new cars- and move house-.

my advise dont browse look, if the deals right it's right, be it at a motor show, magazine or your local dealer. but never overstretch your budget, have yours in mind, stick to it and get a bargain.

My inlaws have brought two motorhomes and a CARAVAN over the years of going to shows and such have never been disapointed.

good luck
