Hi Kev, got a mate who works in some of the most hospitable parts of the uk, often up the side of mountains, he uses a 4x4, the type with the 5 seater cab and pick-up rear end, as he also tends to be away from home most of the time he lives in his caravan for most of the year. He often tells me of sites that have refused him entry due to the pick-up and towing a big twin axle van, well if you live in it best make it comfy and spacious!
I think that there must be many folks in and around the UK who are in a similair position and often get refused by the narrow-sighted brigade of owners. Perhaps if they actually thought of the revenue that is brought to a site by working folks they would see that not only would these people recommend their sites to other working folks but also recommend them to the many friends they have who are looking for a site for their holidays!

I know exactly what you mean. I used to work for a major UK civil engineering company. Our Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4's were bright orange! I, like most of the lads towed my home behind me, as we worked all over the UK. The number of times I was refused entry from sites was unreal! Still, I hope it's a lesson learned for now that I'm a campsite owner, I tend not to 'pigeonhole' people like that. I've had people mail us here as well as call us up, asking if we will take pick ups and twin-axle 'vans. Of course we do. Hopefully, I can tell the difference between holidaymakers and travellers.

You can't entirely blame site owners in this matter (although they usually are to blame for most other things!)   Admit it, you see a twin axle van pull on site with either a pick up or Transit towing it and what do you do?  We all do it, despite the howls of protests I'm sure will follow......you mentally wonder what valuables you need to put away under lock and key.  And make another mental note not to come back if the owner lets pikeys on.

They dont get refused because they are workers, they get refused because :- (a) they probably want to be there over the 28 day rule; (b) they get up very early, and thus disturb holidaymakers - who then complain bitterly about it; (c) or they come back late at night, and still disturb the holidaymakers who again complain bitterly about it.  Some might even make the place look untidy, or like a builders yard, and people do tend to complain......
