I have had 5 Fronteras and find them brilliant tow cars. You will not get anything like 50 mpg solo or towing though. I just wish they made the new Frontera replacement as mine is due for changing and I don't know what to go for. I tow a Pastiche and it never budges on the back of my Olympus. Is the Xantia not a touch light for your Amara? - keep on looking after your Frontera, it will keep going so you won't need to replace it. There is a new Vauxhall 4x4 coming out next year, called the Antara. It has lots of new inovations and will be a class leader. My 2.2 petrol will pull the side off a house and is the best car i've owned. I had a 2.0 sport before it and that was also a great towcar, the only reason I changed it was because of my expanding family.

Since my original post I have failed to find a decent Frontera, but today I had a look at an Isuzu Bighorn 3.2 V6. It seemed in good nick for the age, no rust or rot and supposedly done 61000miles. It was a new import from Japan. The exchange price against my Xantia was £2500, does this seem reasonable?
It looks as though the mpg will be about 20 to the gallon which isn’t brill, so even as I type this I can feel myself going of the idea. Does anyone out there have any experience of this car?
that is a fair price for your xantia i think. personally unless you are towing every weekend and use alot of cls or rally fields i cant see the point in having a v6 3.2 4x4 towcar. imagine the fuel you will burn using the vehicle for an every day mode of transport ?
this vehicle however is one of the better 4x4s and more respected than a frontera.
The Bighorn was a SWB and was screen priced at £3995 with £1500 for the xantia. I think your right about being a bit OTT getting a V6. We dont go rallying but were hoping to get more winter weekinds in.

Dont touch it John,Imports are more trouble than they are worth honestly ! insurance is hefty, and to be honest you dont know the history of these motors ! keep well clear. IMHO
