Hi No, I don't think these are better than a "full awning". The material they are made of is not as sturdy in my opinion (although I have several tents made of the same stuff which are excellent quality and never leak). Our awning is very heavy and does not have zip out panels all around which means putting it up can be a task. We have got a pitch on a site were we will be leaving the caravan all season and popping down on the weekends. I just think if we arrive on site around 7pm on a friday night the PDQ awning would be quick and easy rather than bothering with the full awning just for a couple of nights. I would still keep the full awning for when we stay for longer. Have you had a go at putting your awning up by yourself? I wouldn't rule it out until you have had a go. If it's a definate no no then decide where to go from there. Leanne
Hi. We had one.The weight including poles 11kg.Quick to erect, but a sod to peg out and almost impossible to stop
the roof sagging. Your idea about using a pdq or a full awning has one major snag. The pdq and it's poles stay on the van ,to fit another awning it has to be taken off first. You also need a minimum length of 2.3 metres of STRAIGHT awning rail. We rated ours just passable but would not have another.

A lot of folk seem to have had problems with the PDQ awnings. The only problem I had was when I left the awning up when a strong wind was forecast which, in hindsight, was not the best idea. I came home from Spain having left the remains of the material in a rubbish skip. DO NOT LEAVE UP IN STRONG WINDS. What I do say, however, is that the original supplier (Pyramid) is a firm worthy of doing business with. I didn't claim on my damaged PDQ as I was to blame for not heeding the "strong wind" warning. Pyramid came up trumps when they willingly replaced an extension mirror after the glass fell out without provication, after being used three times. Rambleruk.

Hi All, I posted elsewhere about my experiences withthe PDC awning returnen first one colour runs, leaks, bag ripped, was replaced with a mk3 Excel version at Additional cost bag tore on putting on rail for first time rail was sprayed with silicone first, bag filled with water free shower every time stitching on bag tore with wind, mildew on awning and inside/outside of bag, dealer recalled the awning and offered
credit or replacement with a Spacelite original or my choice from Spacelite range
so if you fancy a PDQ my message would be Buyer Beware!

Hi all, just to update my previous post used the spacelite original awning for the first time last week it was up for four days in wet and windy weather at Braemar CC site,
Verdict Great easy to put up single handed, more a 3/4 awning than a porch, sturdy no apparant damage after 6 days use, option of travelling with it on the awning rail,
easy to put back in the bag though an extra pair of hands make it easier still,in short everything a PDQ should be but ISNT. .

Hi All,
We bought a second hand ( Used once) mk 3 excel to try it out as a weekend awning which we could put up quick on arrival &keep an eye on the kids.
We used it for the first time last weekend in the Peak District, got it up in the rain in about 10 mins and it worked really well over the weekend and withstood high winds, hail storm & heavy thundery rain with out a tie down kit as Hubby forgot it so we only had it pegged down & used the little guy ropes that came with it.
It came down as easily, we dried it out by shaking it, folded the sides up & in as shown & rolled it up & did up the zip job done!
I thought it was fantastic - are we the only ones who haven't had any problems with one?
We will try it again this Bank Holiday & see what happens, fingers crossed!

PDQ AWNING - bought, put on van, instrructions near to useless, pain in backside to put away first time
took it away this weekend just gone, easy to get up, on last night i had a splash of inspiration, take the 3 sides off (they fold up small ) and it goes up in the bag no problem, away in five minutes, the instructions and video from pyramid are useless, but first use in windy conditions its done the job well, the mildew thing is annoying, but for a weekend porch I feel its doing its job
when re-erecting put thing up loose sides on to get tension and away we go - simple
one hint the centre bar - take it off and leave it in the van when putting it away
like all things it can be improved - lets see what pyramid comeup with

I would like to add my comment to all those listed regarding the pdq awning.
In July last year my parents bought a pdqawning for their caravan whilst i opted for the sunncamp scenic plus porch awning. Upon arrival at our campsite on our first weekend out with the awnings I began to put up my awning whist my parents did theirs. It took my 5 minutes on my own to put up and peg the scenic plus. On the other hand, it took my parents 45 minutes to get the pdq up! The next weekend we went away I watched as my parents opened the pdq awning and werte drenched by the water that came out with it! We took tthe pdq down, took it home and dried it out completely, once again on the next outing we opened the bag to find it full of water. Oncea gain we took it down, dried it out at home and put it back up. Three weeks later on taking it out, again it was full of water and was full of mould. My parents are now so annoyed by this that they are going to throw it in the nearest bin and get a suncamp scenic plus. PDQ? Pretty Damn Crap in our opinion! We only wish we had read some of the reviews for the PDQ before purchasing one. My opinion? Save your money and check the reviews before purchasing any awning.

We had a PDQ MkI awning that lasted 3 seasons. We used to go away after work every other Friday evening and come home on Sunday afternoon. We found the PDQ excellent value for money. It is light weight, stays on the side of the caravan all season and very quick to erect. We also have a full size Isabella awning which during this period stayed in its bag in the garage! Yes the bag filled with water when it rained, but you soon got to learn to stand back when you open the zip!
On arrival on site the awning would be erected within 10 minutes by myself whilst my wife fetched the water and walked our two dogs; so much more convenient than the hour plus to erect the full Isabella awning. Towards the end of last season (Sept 08) the PDQ finally had to be replaced as it got torn and the one of the zips broke. It was replaced with a PDQ MkIII which I bought online for about £170. The MKIII has three roof poles instead of the one in the original version, the material is heavier, and the panels now zip out from the bottom – a very much stronger construction! The bag also has drain holes in it to let out any rain that congregates in the bag. The disadvantages are that the unit is now heavier and with the thicker material and three roof poles it is a struggle to get it all packed away into the bag. We have overcome this by taking out the panels and keeping them in the van when travelling. The new one is not so easy to erect single handed but is much stronger and more robust when erected.
We also have a Sunncamp Scenic Plus, but it is smaller, harder to erect and some of the fibre glass pole sections have split – it hasn’t been erected more than half a dozen times and is now stored under the bed to be used only in emergencies.
Of our three awnings;
if we are away for a period we take off the PDQ and use the Isabella, absolute luxury, so much space and the quality is unsurpassed.
for weekends then the PDQ is just so convenient.
the Scenic Plus – not a lot cheaper than the PDQ but is so much harder to put up, provides less space and only gets used on a last night of a long stay if rain is forecast for the next day and would involve taking down a wet full sized awning!
From our experience of nearly 4 years use,the PDQ is excellant value for money and very convenient.
