Hi Elaine it was most likly the fact that it was an exceptionally long drag uphill and maybe your coolant level is not strong enough or maybe the themostat is a bit sticky

Overheating is a regular problem with the Estima, due in part to the water coolant system layout and the smallish, badly located radiator. Any overheat will do damage to the cylinder head and it's a nightmare to access, as is anything on the engine at all. Alternators don't last long, nor do the wheel bearings, and the auto box is poor when towing and an oil cooler is essential, but expensive! Insurance? Well, I'd sit down when you're getting quotes!!!!!

And they don't handle all that well with a caravan hooked up, IFyou can find a towbar!

Hi Jfane seems like you had better look for a better tow wagon than the Estima why do you want an import they are such a weight round your neck so many of my customers that have owned or own them wish they didnt and you lose a hell of a lot of money when you get shot of them my brother bought a 4x4 Pajero he paid the normal rip off price for it from one of the import showrooms had it 2 years and all he was offered was 1500.00 for it total loss of about 4000.00 plus repairs and running costs

Stop knocking the Estima. We think its great. The handling whilst towing is like any other car. I've towed with a Rover400 with a very light weight tin tent on the back and the handling was like towing with a HGV on the back. VERY BAD!!! Under powered, poor brakes and prone to over heating. As for the estima (Lucy), we/I haven't had any problems with the auto box, wheel bearings, over heating or anything else. The only problem I have is the wife sat in the front seat telling me to slow down  . There is so much power and torque in these beast's that you forget that your towing a caravan. Anyway jfane if you do buy one you'll want for nothing else
