if your buy a caravan private
fully checked it even if the seller is stating no damp he would not know if damp there on not you need a
Protimeter mini
Protimeter mini 3 for this we looked at a few on ebay I and even the ones that looked so perfect had some damp in but its not all doom and gloom even with some damp as long as the reading are under 24% and no higher you can get it resealed as long has the boards are not soft when you press on them if they are run a mile but if they are still soiled to touch it will dry out again and the reading will fall back to normal after you resealed it, but this will reflect the price a great deal and I think by law I might be wrong if you find damp in the caravan any one is selling the seller must tell the other people that damp is in it even if you don't decide to buy it ,because even a minor bit of damp can cause bit of grief and money to put back right also if you buy off a dealer I would still want to check in less its brand new ,get yourself a
Protimeter mini and this will be the best bit of equipment you will ever need to check damp in any caravan and the way to check for damp once you have this you have rubber hedges that finish the caravan off along the roof doors you need to pull push back so you can see the cap and push the two probes in the gap for a reading you need to check all around windows and doors and down the small gap by the door by pulling all rubbers back and do the same along the floors and cupboards and all corners because you can't see the tiny pin head marks the probes leaves behind in this area you can just push them in make sure you check all sky lights and shower area its sounds a lot to do but with this meter its very swift to do and could save you thousands of pounds by just doing this simple test could turn the so nicest caravan in the worthless garden shed because some damp can run in to a lot of money a dealer can charge about £28 pound and hour to repair it ,if some one is selling a caravan for £6000 pound and there is a lot of damp in it could devalue it by half of that I would run a mile even if the inside looks mint this would be bottom book price if it as a little damp in it and all the boards are ok and soiled to touch and you lile the caravan its still going to cost any thing from £100 up and depending how easy it is to fix because the seals will need doing outside and this takes time to do . if your looking for a caravan just to be better than a tent and you are not spending a lot of money only couple of hundred pounds on a caravan its no need to do this but if you are parting with a lot of money this way is the best way to make sure your not getting a heap of rubbish and on top of that a damp caravan will have hundreds and of little crawly things all over the place that live in damp boards and wood and its not very nice if you have children and they are all over your stuff in the cupboards .
