There is no good way to deal with the snow...
Here in the States, even if you stay in the slow speed lane you are stuck behind someone going slower up a hill or stopped altogether...
The only sure way to avoid being in an accident seems to be stopping until the weather and roads are clear...

Hi Greyhound, Freak weather conditions do occur in the UK, and as neither you or I ar indeed in most cases the weather office, can foretell of these then it is not surprising if now and again we get stuck!
In the same position i would most certainly have tried to get off the road and as the site was so close that would have been my option as well.
You did the right thing by stopping where you were and awaiting help, all to often folks just abandon their vehicles which makes life extremly difficult for thosewho come to our rescue. Usually with the local farmer being first on the scene, I am sure you will agree that these folks are extremely warm, friendly, and helpful. Indeed they are the salt of the earth. I have made many friendships getting stuck in snow amd I know many other ex HGV drivers who could also tell of similair tales of farmers helping them out in the winter months.
The only accurate weather forecast is one that is given the day after the event!

Glad to here you enjoyed the rest of your stay and got home safe and sound. Next time don't forget to pack the skies! Lol

We picked up our first caravan on Sat and took it out to it's storage area. Only problem being that here in the depths of Aberdeenshire last week we were up to 2ft in snow and although some of it had thawed and the owner had cleared the track the field still had a good layer of snow on it. It took a good 3/4 of an hour to get it parked as we slid, stalled, got even more stuck. Resorted in pushing the van in to place eventually [uphill!]
Thankfully with a freshlot of sdnow falling over the weekend, no evidence of our 'mess' exsists!!

My photos allow you to see what I saw at the time that I took it....No messing.

We were on a CL in Fife at the weekend - on Saturday evening the owner came over to tell us about the weather warning.  We were there with my best mate and his young family  - they didn't want to be stuck with young kids so we decided to head for home at 8pm!  I wonder what folk thaught seeing two 'vans crossing the Forth Road Bridge at about 10pm on a dark, cold Saturday night!

We arrived back at 11pm and the snow started at about midnight.  It turned out we made the right decision as we would never have got home with the 'van on Sunday - never mind get it up our drive which was about 4ft deep in snow.
