My understanding, from what everybody says here it is a backdoor way to exclude travelling people from their sites..... Done this way so they can avoid the accusation of 'discrimination or prejudice' would that be accurate?
Seems to be that way, as it's hard to bring a claim for discrimination regarding a door position. Just unfortunate that genuine people get caught up in it, but isn't that always the case???

What vehicles fall into the category of being 3501kg without going overboard. In other words they just make it into the 3501 kg category. Also if a capable 4 x 4 vehicle, i.e a Toyota 3.0L from Europe is towing a carvan exceeding the laid down dimensions, can the police remove them from the road as they are under EU law etc? We are seriously considering purchasing a Excelsior 650UFf as it is a better buily caravan than the British vans, but the only concern is towing it and we are looking for the smallest 35001 kg vehilce that fits the bill.
"Actually if you check the various laws relating to Human Rights and disrimination, it is a very fine line and one can spend hours debating it. "
Thats tosh, If I decide to not sell and give no reason that’s my call. I may say no smokers, no Man Utd fans, no one in red and that’s fine provided it isn’t a specifically reserved area such as age, sex and race. As I see it a caravan make is non of those, thus the seller can pick and choose.
after you have had half your stuff stolen on site by travellers you would be wary to let the next lot on. in the new forest i was told a story by the site warden. one retired traveller now living in static now has post code books on . next week there to sons want to come on holiday and so on . ended up with five vans full . loads of things went missing no body saw a thing , but to top it all at the end of the week they did not go till the end of week SIX, when it took the ploice plus baliff to move them.
how many holidays did they spoil ;
why dont they make a caravan in the uk as good as the imports that would stop us having to buy them
Zaccy I can see both sides in this debate seriously....
But let me put it like this if you the person selling the product refused to let somebody in because they were black, or were of the wrong religious persuation, then it would be a human rights issue!! If you refuse somebody entry because they are a romany/traveller.... same deal I would imagine...... it would be the same thing discrimintion on the grounds of 'ethnic group' or nationality. Perhaps a solicitor or barrister would be around to set me straight on this.
So to frame the arguement in the frame of the unit they are driving is much safer.....
message for the bill why didnt you read the first post.just an observation i have noticed before that sometimes on long threads the posts get a little side tracked looks like we are now accusing our traveller friends once again.. the vans in question that are not permitted are in the HOLIDAY RESORT UNITY BREAN SOMERSET 2006 BROCHURE.
ive never read so much trollop in my life about this subject. I run an electrical contract business with a large turnover, I have a hobby, as do 8 others on our site, several are in business, and all are respectable people. The truth is a lot of caravaners and park owners are self styled snobs, who have an assumed air of artifcial importance. They can stick their sites where the sun does not shine as far as Im concerned. The poor argument for the door on wrong side is pathetic, as is the person who quoted 99% of owners of these vans are travellers, get a life.
Cockoroosi I agree with your post. A number of people, not all, seem to have a racist attitude towards all gypsies. It must always be remembered that in all races there are good and bad, but it is always the bad we remember unfortunately. Probably a case of a minority spoiling it for the majority. Incidentally, does any one know how many gypsies are resident in Britain and what is the difference between a gypsy and a tinker?
We bought out first caravan from a gypsy who was up front about the condition of the caravan and charged us a fair price fot it. A sinilar caravan in worse condition was at a dealers fro nearly £1000 more.
There is a difference between gypsies and travellers. Genuine gipsies are very friendly and wouldn't do it across anyone. We had a shop and some of our best customers were gypsies. Unfortunately. we did have trouble with some of the travellers but like every group of people there is good and bad and regretably it is the bad who give all the others a bad name.
I don't think anyone knows how many people there are in this country anyway, let alone gypsies.!!!!!!!!

hi there,we have a predom prespol caravan with the door on the other side,we have never had any problems on any sights,but i am going to start and ask sights if they have a problem with caravans with doors on wrong side i would hate to go miles and be told we cannot go on,
Hi suzieg that is exactly what I said on page three. If I had gone miles and they refused entry I think the only bed I would have for the night would be in the police station. I get rather keyed up sometimes when going camping. Mainly because I like to plan ahead and take everything into account. But as per normal my beloved has not done her bit and we end up being late we then catch traffic, took the wrong road, kids playing up etc. By the time I get to the campsite I am about to blow I just want to unhitch have a coffee and relax, in fact the fetching of the water, hooking up chemicals in the loo, awning etc I find theraputic. .
