I wonder how many people have this problem with the brake lever hitting the Alko handle?   If it is common then Alko need to modify their handle a little.

Just gave the dealer a quick tinkle & put the suggestion it could be the hanbrake lever knocking it off.

He basically said "You took the words out of my mouth"

Looks like it is a common problem.

They are going about it from the other end so to speak-they are going to fit an offset handbrake lever to solve the problem.

Thanks everyone for their contributions-very much appreciated

Hi Remf , couple of things i can think of , ( 1 ) have your brake adjustment checked , it maybe that the hitch draw tube ( called the over run assembly ) is moving to far before the brakes come on , and this extra movement is causing the Alko to knock off . ( 2 ) Does the caravan give the car a thump in the back when you brake , as this may cause the hitch draw tube to travel to far , and would be due to a worn damper tube . ( 3 ) Is the Aklo handle catching or near the hitch fairing as this might be what's knocking the handle up . ( 4 ) Is it possible to bend the handbrake lever slightly to one side , so it clears the Aklo handle .

Hope this helps

Thanks Wizard

We are pretty much in the hands of the dealer.

They serviced the van before collection, but will run these points by them

Having a weekend at home this week, so will drop it off Friday I expect

Eventually got a chance to get the van out of storage, and in for repair.

Very obviously the handbrake knocking the handle up. Plain impact marks on both.

It was hitting where the handle was bolted on, so the short replacement wouldn't have solved it.

Something isn't right, maybe it is worn, and the tube is moving way to far when braking.

Anyway they are replacing the whole lot, maybe not for the same, but I am assured it will still have a stabiliser-so thats good

Just fitted a 3004 Alko stabiliser to my caravan and guess what , the stabiliser handle hits the brake handle when pushing the hitch back , so i fixed it by bending the handle slightly to one side , plus a small scallop cut out of the hitch fairing to allow the brake handle to move to the side .

Bit worrying isnt it?

I don't know what we have now, but there is a wheel to the left of the tow bar which you do up until it clicks, and a fishtail handle to the left

All sorted, but I would have definate concerns using one of those hitches again
