just coppied this from my posting on the "road tax increaces" thread as a matter of interest.
another hidden fact, not mentioned anywhere at all, is that the tax on motorcycles over 600cc, has gone up by £2. so how is that favouring the "greener" vehicles, emissions on most bikes is next to nowt, its not even part of the mot. so how have the small car owners benefited. and us bikers are prejudiced same as 4x4s, its because we ase minority groups and cant shout loud enough.

Yes indeed a lost opportunity.
Road tax on 4x4s should have been at least doubled, Brown would have taken it on the chin, but at least his "green" credentials would have stood the test.
A sobering thought.
The worlds estimated oil reserves are 1000 billion barrels.
There are six billion people in the world today.
This is only 7000 gallons per person.
When it's gone it's gone.
A return trip to Austraila takes over 300 gallons of oil per person.
My trip to Longleat takes only 6 gallons per person.
Caravanning makes sense.

now thats verry big of you,"ultimates" again youre one of those that is singling out 4x4s instead of focusing on co2 emissions
id be interested to know how your MONDEO TDCI ESTATE compares
seeing as its a company car "as stated in one of your earlier posts. and you probably dont have to pay the road tax yourself.
very hipocritical view.

Not really Stu you have got me (and the problem) wrong.
You call me a hipocrite...do you actually know the meaning of the word?
Yes I drive a company car (and pay for it in my tax code).
My Mondeo achieves a genuine 49 average mpg.
I pay for all my private mileage myself.
I do not undersatnd how this makes me a hipocrite...perhaps you would like to justify this to the forum or perhaps apologise...(which I would of course willingly accept)
regards
David

i agree with all the lower parts of your post, about oil reserves, longleat etc.
its just that you let go with both barrels directly at 4x4s, for no apparent reason.
as i said before the co2 emissions should be on your v 5 log book so what band does your mondeo fit into.
i would think it would be the same one as many 4x4s.
seeing as some new astras and even minis go in the higher band.

Thanks Stu,
My Mondeo is in the 156 gm category. I drive about 4000 miles a year on "private" trips.
To some extent it is indeed the manufacturer's who are marketing the heavier vans ...perhaps to cash in with the "top end" caravanners.
If vans could be made lighter ( a bit difficult to see how) whilst still giving us our fixed bed end bathroom walk in showers etc, the choice of tow car would be much easier and folk could decide if they were happier with the 49 mpg from their Mondeo or did really need a 4x4 just for four weeks towing a year.
regards
Mr Ulti-Mate
