We've just bought a new folding pennine fiesta camper.
We're going to use it with an awning, I was just wondering if a hard standing or good flat grass is better to use with the awning??, we've got an awning 'carpet'.
hard standing for us every time, the reason is we have seen some awful sites when we have been to some sites and it has rained heavy.some pitches turned to mud baths.this can not be good for the base walls of the awning
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
On the whole, I too prefer hard standing but the exception being in warm dry weather where it's nice to have a grass pitch. The weather being the deciding factor, its no fun walking through mud to get to the van, then the hassle of having to clean it off the awning skirt before packing it away.
We always try and use a hard standing. Have seen the state of some pitches when the groundsheet has been down for a week and then it has rained. We go away all year so a hardstanding when its we is always a bonus.
Went away last Easter and the water started coming up through the groundsheet on the grass prich we had. Never again!!!
Hard standing for me every time but only because it easier as my wife is in a wheelchair and its no fun trying to push on a wet slippery grass surface.
Hard standing is OK unless your in Chile, we had all sorts of problems when we tried to book a descent campsite at the foot of the Andes. My advice is look for hard standing in a small Licolnshire village famous for it's panto and hope for the best. Regards
Grass, every time - I hate the feeling of being on a car park that you get with hard standings. I might just about consider a hard standing in really poor weather, but last year we were away from February until November and never experienced any problem with grass pitches.
