hi all.i will soon be travelling from lincs to cornwall but would like an overnight stop roughly halfway.have i read somwhere that some service stations oblige? all comment s greatly appreciated. googie.
If you are a member of one of the clubs why not stop at one of their 5 van sites? I have often found them very flexible about what time you arrive and want to leave. You will get a better rest and sleep than in a noisy service area I would think. Probably a good bit safer as well.
The five van sites are the CL's, they will be in your CC sites book or log onto The Caravan Club web site to find them. The web site is the best place as it is more up to date as any alterations are posted as they happen rather than having to wait for the magazine with its updates.
I arrived on the IOW this year at about 2am, I obviously couldn't turn up on the site. The man at the ferry said that tesco was shut and I should park up there for the night and that is just what we done, someone else that had a caravan on the ferry followed us. Might be something you could do.
We are staying at a CL site in Christchurch near pool, (only a few miles away) the night before we catch the ferry and also on the way back, but having 3 nights there before we set of for home, we like the cl sites.
Hi we have stopped at service stations on the way to dover and back, they charge £8 a night, just can't think of the name of it t the moment
we stayed at one on the way home from dover too, but didn't realise you were meant to pay!! didn't see a sign or anything. got a good nights sleep and because they're tucked away from the motorway you don't hear any noise.
will be looking for one myself on the way to cornwall from yorkshire this year. do they only have them down south, cos i've never seen one up here where you can park up for the night?
Yes Billie thats right "Mainstone Service Station"
Well you only pay if you are more than 4 hours, I found it very quite, we parked next to other caravans, no problem at all
Billie we not thought of stopping over on the way to Cornwall, but it is a good idea, maybe go Friday night and look for some where to stop over. Anyone know of a place from don caster to Looe?
we're planning on driving as far as we can be bothered on the saturday then stopping at a services somewhere, cos we can't get on our site until the sunday morning. if we leave home teatime ish saturday we should get so we only have a couple of hours on the sunday morning - well thats the plan anyway.........
I think that most motorway services let you stay overnight, as more often than not the truckers use them. All the ones I've seen along the M5 let you do it. You'll see a smallish sign on a lamp post and usually a parking meter type thing nearby. The services usually have showers aswell.
