Hiya everyone,

Some of you may have picked up on recent threads that I am about to collect my new (and first) caravan any day now. Unfortunately, due to reasons that cannot be logically or rationally explained, I have just found out that although my caravan was initially due for collection week ending 24th March, then on the 22nd March was informed (after telephoning the dealer) that it was due to be produced week commencing 27th March and collection 7-10 days after manufacture; that the 'van still probably has not been manufactured and that next week will be the absolute earliest that it will be delivered to the dealership.

There is still the small matter of 7 - 10 days that I have to wait in order for the dealer to pdi the caravan for me. I'm told that if the caravan arrives very early next week, it may be ready for Saturday 22nd.

Down but not out; bloodied but not broken, we will scoop up our shattered dreams of an Easter break and refurbish them. Disappointment 2 is having not arranged anything over the Easter break, has anyone tried booking a holiday at such short notice? B***y murder! Everywhere's booked.

So, as you settle down for a pleasant evening beside your caravan; sun slowly setting and the bottle of vin rouge calling to you; raise a glass to me and the others like me who would, if we could, have been with you. The toast?........ quite simply 'To absent friends'.

Regards

Defender

We had a booked commitment last year whilst our caravan was in for a warranty repair, all was well in the end as the caravan was returned on time. Obviously at the time this concerned me but was reassured by the dealer that in the event of our van not being ready they would lend us one. If you can find a space on a site or a CL it might be worth asking the question.

Either way be assured, I will be having a beer and a glass of wine for you,

Oh I forgot, I am assuming our caravan is ready for collection this Saturday following a further warranty repair!!. So perhaps you could have our pitch

I wonder how many people are facing Easter at home through no fault of there own?

Try contacting the manufacturer of your new caravan. I ordered a new caravan at the NEC show and was told delivery would be early May. When I arrived home I telephoned the manufacturer and told them what I had ordered and asked them when delivery would likely be. They told me that they would be starting to produce the particular model I had ordered about the middle of May. The dealer was probably putting a bit of a gloss on things as I had told him that I had a holiday in France booked for the end of June. I don't know if you are aware but the majority of manufacturers make their vans in batches e.g. all the 2 berths, 4 berths, 6 berths, twin axles etc. etc. so they will have a good idea when your van type will be getting made.

Hi manjr,

I spoke with the manufacturer today. Although very pleasant and empathetic, could not confirm whether or not my caravan had in fact been manufactured yet or not. All their computer screen showed was an estimated date of delivery to the dealer..... in this case, possibly next week. The customer service operator also told me that although the company's brochure indicates that every caravan id despatched to the respective dealer within 48 hours, that this was in fact not true. Apparently in the majority of cases they try to apply this policy, but due to transportation difficulties including, making up a full order for a dealership, they cannot guarantee that they will meet their advertised 'turn-around' target. I was not aware that they are built in batches. Although this obviously makes sense, I did not realise that they would therefore only have one production line?

lrogers,

Thats really really kind of you to offer your pitch, but we couldn't possibly accept. If your 'van is not ready then hopefully you will be able to obtain a replacement from the dealer and thereby 'get away' for the weekend.

Regards

Defender

I'm not sure that they only have one line though that is probably the case. I hope that the manufacturers of my van deliver within 48 hrs of production, though saying that, I don't know how many they have to make or how long the run lasts. I know mine won't be made till May sometime but I'm getting impatient already, I keep re-reading the brochure.
