Hi

I'm having a bit of a panic ... we're looking to buy a new awning for our 'van. I was under the impression it was a 11ft 6" van, so I measured the rail its about 710cm ok I think thats a size 3 awning falls under the 700 -725am range! Good. Thought well i'll just check my handbook and it says the body length is 4.94m which is about 16ft!! Now I'm a bit confused, I presume that is the total length including towbar but now when I see awning adverts saying to fit 12ft van etc I'm presuming they mean actual caravan length not length plus towbar!? So please someone shed light on this when talking about awnings and the caravan length is quoted it would be just the length of the actual living spacewouldn't it? Yes I would go outside with a tape measure but its chucking it down!

Any ideas?

Cheers
Helen

Thanks - awning rail length is 710cm which puts the van under 11ft? Gosh this is rather confusing just don't want to get the wrong awning but I guess if I stick to the rail size I should be ok?

I may be getting the wrong end of the stick here but when you say rail length you do mean ground to ground don't you and not just the rail on the van.

hi you probably did but make sure you measured ground to ground with your string, not easy sometimes.for example... the length of the van could be 11 foot.the internal length of the van could be 9 foot, but the shipping length which includes the towbar or A frame could be 14foot.hope this helps.[:o)]

Hiya

Yep ground to ground is 710cm as in the diagram! I think I'll have to measure length of actual van as well I presume its from the widest bit to the widest bit (length ways!)

According to the paperwork complete length (shipping length?) is 4.94m which is around 16ft just seemed a bit long considering the size of the actual van & awning!

Need a dry day so I can get out there with my tape measure!

Helen

>>According to the paperwork complete length (shipping length?)

Shipping length is the total length of the caravan including the towbar ( ie A frame & hitch )

If you tell the people who you are buying the awning from what van you have they may know what size you will need, thus saving the confusion.Thats what I did but Im thick and had the same problem.
