Hopefully picking up my new 'van on Thursday or Friday this week. I have read on various threads and sites comments regarding pdi (or lack of pdi or apparent pdi) from customers when collecting their new 'vans or whilst collecting a 'van after warranty work etc.
I have several questions: When collecting my new 'van, what should I look for that would indicate that the 'van has actually been pdi'd? What does a pdi involve and require the dealer to do/check/adjust? Are there any tell tale signs that a 'van has not been pdi'd but merely offered to the customer in a clean and presentable condition? Does the pdi need to be carried out by a qualified technician/caravan workshop operative or can the salesman carry out the pdi work?
I ask out of interest, but mainly because my dealer told me that due to seasonal pressure and a member of staff leaving the company last week, that there was no chance of getting my 'van until the weekend of the 22/23 April at the earliest. I was then told that a senior manager in the firm will personally pdi my 'van and that this is ok because he has some workshop experience having spent some time in the workshop a number of years ago. The manager is now off sick, but I have been told that the 'van will still be ready for collection, most probably Thursday.
Thoughts/comments/observations/advice as ever gratefully received,
I always get the jitters about caravan P.D.I s,and caravan servicing and the delivery charge you have to pay on a new van,and think are we getting value for money?.I recently took delivery of a brand new twin axle van,all 4 tyres were very low on pressure and had to inflated,a basic pdi item that hadnt been checked, the dealer said it had been pdi ed but had it, this is rip off caravanland so beware and check yourself if not sure.

Recently (20 Feb) took delivery of a new van. Couldn't wait to get the ham-fisted, clumsy handover man out of our new 'van. The guy was a menace!
I think the best thing is to ensure you check things with the person doing the handover if you are not sure of something; e.g. one of our hob burners does not stay lit when you release the knob - it lights ok (which is what they checked and showed us), but did not ensure it worked properly. 3 burner hob became 2 burners; not good.
Things like road lights, tyre pressures, wheel nut torque etc are the things we all check before setting off anyhow (aren't they???).
Most important is to enjoy your new van, and check it out somewhere close to home before trying an important trip.
The problem is that most dealers do not seem to know what a PDI is although you pay for it as part of the delivery. Anyway as far as I am concerned, the factory should be doing the initial PDI with the dealer doing a follow up one. Welcome to rip off Britain!

For the amount of money they cost insist on checking everything before you go. None of this here's your coat where's your hurry. If you aren't happy make sure they and a shop full of customers know about it.
