No idea if you really need one, but I feel much happier knowing we do

Quite daunting towing a van for the first time

Befor we got the Alko we always had a stabiliser on. Only time we didn't was when we picked up our 1st van and was very nervous towing it the 10 miles.

Better to be safe tahn sorry.

If the combination car-caravan is right, nose weight is kept correct and the van well loaded, the anti snaking device is not an absolute necessity. But it is worth to consider applying one.

It just pushes the limit (where you should never get to) a bit further, which especially caters for difficult circumstances such a a truck passing too close.

And I did notice it is more comfortable in driving.
Last year in Sweden once I forgot to put it on. No problem whatsoever, but I did notice the wind pulling and blowing from time to time (it was a very windy day). During a break I routinely checked a few things and found out i forgot the stabilizer. I put it on. The driving after that was much more comfortbale, feeling the wind much less, just a much more queit feeling in the steering wheel.

Twenty years ago we were still camping and when on holiday in the New Forrest my wife decided that it would be nice to have a caravan.

So we found an old Robin 15foot that leaked like sieve but we were in love with it and promptly set about planning our first holiday, Cornwall.

Our tow car was a Triumph TR7! I dont think the car was very suitable though as the weight balance was miles out.

We found out very soon that instability was horrendous! anything above 40 mph with a truck passing and we almost went into orbit!

However, when we fitted a stabilser it was manageable.

I dont reccomend anyone repeating our adventure but it proved that a stabiliser is a must if you are a novice and even now after all these years we use one, a straitliner.

I think this is just about the best available.
