hi all iv just got my first caravan its a lynton javelin exec ,its a old one but a good one,has anybody got any info on this van that may come in useful to me .im towing with a ford focus 1,6 auto,is there any rules or regs that i need to know of ,any help or advice will be a great help thanks ps iv never towed
Sorry but have never heared of one of them before. Best place to start is checking the kerbweight of your car and the weight of your van. The recommendation is that you do not go over 85% of the kerbweight of the car with the laden weight of your van. Get a stabiliser. There is a fair bit more to learn but these are the first 2 basics you should do. Do you know the weights of the van?
------------- Reality is an illusion created by lack of alcohol!!
Lyntons were not a bad van when they were made, sort of middle of the road. Caravans were lighter then so weight should not be a problem. Has it been serviced? I would recommend this and check the tyres are fit.
Just got our first caravan a eldiss typhoon xl and want to buy an awning for it can anyone tell me how to measure the caravan for the correct awning size
as far as your car is concerned you would be better off getting an in line oil cooler fitted, as the oil will be runing a lot hotter than usual and mostly cant cope for long with a caravan on the back, also make sure your brakes on the car and van are really well looked after as thats what you are reliing on more so as you cant change gear to slow you down.
thanks for the replys ,the weight of the van is 813 unladen and 1000 laden i have looked this up and 85% is 1000 so weight sould not be a problem .its not been serviced yet but has been booked in ,all new tyers and the spair, thanks for the help
