When we stayed on a hard standing, we found that we did need those high tensile, (probably spelt wrong though), long metal peg things as the ground around the edge of the hard standing was still pretty hard to secure the awning.
Blimey.....hippy chick with advice!!! Whatever next?
Hi there, I am in the process of buying some screw in steel pegs for when we are on hard ground, gravel, I have come across a company who do them and you can put them in with a rechargeable drill.
the company is call www.screwpegs.com tel: 0845 1307 437, you can get a set of 35 6" steel pegs with the adapter and socket for £40.
We use rock pegs if the awning is on hardstanding. Can get them from caravan dealers or camping shops, vary from 50p to £1 each. Bought ours at Lickpenny site when we were there in February as normal pegs would not go in. Use a claw hammer to put in & extract.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
If your awning is going to be on hard standing, use rock pegs as suggested by Bordercaz - they are usually quite easy to hammer in, but really easy to twist out!

Some hard standings - such as at Scarboro C&CC site use plastic grass friendly checkboard. So you can use normal pegs. A lot of sites will be getting on that bandwagon as they are environmentally friendly.
