we are fairly new to caravanning, bought a new van 14 months ago but the water pump has stopped working. Having contacted the dealer (who I wont name but are from "North Staffs"!!) they have quoted end of June before they can look at it...two months!! Assuming a week or so to source spares that writes off about half the summer.

Is this a usual wait for repairs?

Am I being naive in thinking if I have bought the van from them to expect a reasonable turnaround of repairs? If it was a broken door or something I wouldnt have a problem waiting but something as crucial as water I think demands a more prompt service?

Comments and thoughts appreciated.

Ring up Baileys http://www.bailey-caravans.co.uk/customer.htm and explain your problem , they should be able to get the dealer moving . You could say something like " Having bought a new Bailey caravan you were expecting a better aftersales service than what you have recieved so far " . Baileys will i'm sure get it sorted for you .

I would take the pump to the dealer and ask for a replacement there and then.

I do the towing so it must be my turn to wash the van and clean the inside!!!

We bought our Bailey from there about 6 weeks ago. We were on our 3rd trip away last weekend and the water heater had stopped working. We tested everything (Hubbie very handy) and we knew the element had gone. We phoned dealer from the site on Sat "No problem, bring it in on Tues". We haven't had it back yet- hopefully we'll get it back before Cabbage Hall!

Try again- we got in so quick I'm surprised you can't

Bailey have autorised several non dealers to carry out warranty work. These are listed on Bailey's web site and will probably be a bit more organised and have more to lose.

In saying this I assume your " new " caravan is under maker's warranty rather than an older one "new" to you with just the dealers warranty. If the latter go down there on a busy day and make an obvios fussin a public area - dont let them discuss it in the office where they are safe from other customers hearing. This worked for me.

Thanks for comments.

Yes its a new bailey so still under manufacturers warrranty.

We have bought a new pump but that doesnt work either, and have tried different fuses. We will try and get some joy from the North Staffs Caravans,(oops i named them!) and try Baileys direct too.

We will let you know how we get on.

Thanks again for your comments folks.
