I know this has came up in previous threads but:

My van is 7.95m in length (26'1") and I need breakdown recovery cover which will recover my towing vehicle and my van if the car breaks down. Here's the scenario - My car has broken down. It needs to go on the back of a truck. The truck needs to tow my caravan. Green Flag tell me that they cannot recover a caravan longer than 18'(although their terms & conditions state 25') and that two recovery vehicles are needed and I have to pay for the second one.

End result, My family and I sat in a layby for 6 hours arguing with Green Flag (whom I have been a member of for 15 years - previously National Breakdown) that I will not pay for a second recovery truck and that in the past I have been recovered from Derby to Aberdeen when my car broke down towing a caravan longer than 18'. Anyway, eventually got home, however I now longer trust Green Flag given that I am towing to Italy in the summer.

So heres my question: Can anybody recommend a recovery polcy that will do the following -

1. Provide recovery for a caravan that is 7.95m (26'1")
2. Extend this cover to Europe
3. IMORTANT- Recover a caravan that cannot be towed using a standard 50mm towball - I have an Alko 3004 hitch which requires the use of an Alko towball which is not standard. When I got recovered this weekend the recovery man had to take the towball off my car and fit it on his so he could hitch up the van.

All replies and guidance are greatly appreciated.

Sorry, cant really help, but was just a bit shocked to read  your thread that they wanted you to pay for a second breakdown truck - that's slightly worrying as I've just renewed my breakdown cover with Tesco - aka green flag.  Think i'd better read my policy.

RAC  is the one I have been with for many years and never had any problems with them

It was green flag that left my friends stranded in york as she could not drive and he had a heart atack. green flags reasponce was we can not provide transport home for your car and caravan as they are not broken down.

I ended up catching a train up to york and bringing ther unit home for them .
