We looked at the CCC/RAC Breakdown but they don't offer the double-journey cover of taking you and caravan on to your holiday destination and returning you home at the end if you break down enroute.

As I said earlier we broke down big-time enroute to a 4 week holiday in Scotland a few years back.  We had to wait over a week at Lomond Woods Camping site, Balloch near Loch Lomond whilst our car was repaired - the auto gearbox had burnt out - cost £2K to repair.  Whilst it is a very pleasant area  - without a car we were rather limited in what we could do - we did fortuantely have our bikes and the local Co-op had a delivery service - that puzzled all the other campers at Lomond Woods site.

If we had been a member of "Mayday" then I thinkthey would have taken us on to our original site, Port Ban on Kintyre and then re-united us with the car when it was fixed.

One lives and learns!!

will they still pick up the caravan if there is a fault with it and not the car ?

The CCC/RAC scheme will recover the caravan if it is the problem.
They are also now starting the double journey scheme.

The AA only covers caravans up to 7m in length but would also cover just if the caravan had a problem assuming you had taken out the right kind of cover.

Just to clarify, RAC Arrival through CCC, DO have Double Journey Cover, it was introduced as part of the Arrival scheme last year.  Hope this helps.

The T&C for Green flag are more restrictive than they are for Mayday. I was with RAC who will not cover a trailer of any kind. RAC do the cover for the Caravan And Camping Club, and offer cover for trailers for their members. In all, I think you are better going through one of the clubs as you have the clubs powers of persuasion behind you under such cercumstances. Under no cercumstances would Green Flag or RAC wish to lose the custom the clubs pass to them To the AA, so both would be far more helpful if contacted via either clubs telephone number, which differs from the Green Flag or RAC members numbers.

Some good points Sounds Digital, definately better off getting cover via one of the Clubs.  RAC Arrival through CCC there are No width or length restrictions for Caravans/Trailers or Motorhomes. also within the Arrival service they include Arrival Return - taking you a your outfit to your UK holiday destination and back home again if your vehicle can not be repaired. Also included with Arrival is Re-Unite,which brings the vehicle and caravan/trailer togeather if they are separated due to a breakdown.   The No s you need for further info RAC Arrival /CCC 0800 1977 823 quoting Ref CL 00 28.    Or for CC/Mayday with Green Flag  0800 7310 112

RAC have recovered me & trailer more than once over the years from a 12ft 800kg tintent to a 3300kg 24ft (+drawbar) race trailer (that worked out at a trainweight for my combo in excess of 5500kg). Thats just on the standard "get you to destination" scheme from RAC themselves, not going through any clubs or special schemes. The only time I have ever had a problem was when the flatbed came out and didnt have a 12v convertor for his 24v lighting, so he just propped his regular trailer board in the back window of the caravan. I have always mentioned a trailer at first call, and I also mention the weight of my tow vehicle (usually too heavy for a small flatbed) and the weight & length of trailer
