Ordered a new caravan, & was due to pick it up in June. Just our luck 2 weeks ago the dealer had a fire at their storage facility with around 50 caravans damaged or destroyed. The downside is we are now not getting a new van, as the one we had put a deposit on was a 2005 dealer special and can't be replaced, oh p**h. The upside is we are now getting a 2005 Compass Ralleye 524, although s/hand had only been used for 1 weekend & traded in for a larger caravan. As a result we pick it up the same day as we were picking up the original van, thus 1 happy couple and many thanks to the sales manager at Campbells Caravans at Preston
Webby posted a thread covering the story here . On one hand I would be gutted, after buying a 'new' van, to then getting a second hand van for the same price? But is it a better van than the original one you ordered? if not then I would ask for some kind of compo
But on the other hand I would say good on the dealers to be able to sort you out with another 'van, to have it ready for the same pick up time.
I do feel sorry for Campbells Caravans as this seems to have been an arson attack, but they seem to be dealing with it Ok.
With regards to our caravan goin up in smoke, I can honestly say that Campbells Caravans especially Mr Paul MacDonald the sales manager were most helpful & bent over backwards to help us decide what we wanted to do. We were offered a no quibble refund but in the end were given a far better deal on what is an almost new van(only used for 1 weekend before being traded in for a larger van), but with a far better spec than the one we were originally getting. So once again a big thanks to Paul and to Campbells.
It is fantastic to hear a positive posting about a dealer's attitude for once and well done to Campbells. Wish we lived in the NW, would consider them once we resume our search for a van.
I don't wish to put a downer on things David but I have to express my total surprise if not suspicion, that someone traded a brand new van in after just one weekend.
At the very least I would want to talk to the previous owners and if everything's kosher as Paul says he'll arrange that contact for you.
...Not everything is 'crooked' just because it's a good deal... I bought a beautiful little caravan, about eight years ago, it was a brand new 'Bessacarr Cameo' 2 berth...
I had it for one Summer and decided caravanning wasn't for me. I sold it in September (bought it in April) for £1500 less than I paid, for what was in effect a brand new van, as it had been 'on site' and used for only 28 days...
It was a gorgeous little caravan and the people who bought it were very happy with it and so was I, because I promptly went out and bought a nice new tent!...
