I am pleased to be able to report that I do get "our" own back on the silly b*gg*rs.

I have lost count of the number of times that, when exiting a roundabout on our local dual carriageway, to travel (up quite a hill) towards the motorway, cars veer violently out from behind the van ............... and then disappear in my rear view mirror as I accelerate up the hill MUCH faster than they can.

700 nm of torque at just 2000 rpm can be very satisfying !!

OK, the wife tels me I am a little boy.  I don't need any of you to side with her.

Now now Michael, that poor old Toureg of yours sounds like it is taking a hammering already!!

If you get to read this post, I did post for you the other day to ask you what route you use to drive to Austria.  Any chance of a response if you have a minute?

usualy we go from calais, along the coast to Ostend, up to Brusels, round the ring road, and continue to Aachen, down the A61 to just past Manheim, then on to the A6 for Nuremberg, the A9 for Munich, round the ring road (A99) then A8 towards Salzberg, then A93 towards Innsbruck.

This time we are taking a ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, so the route is Rotterdam, Arnhem, Duisburg, then carry on down the A3 past Dusseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Nuremberg,  then as before down to Munich etc.

Both these routes are fast, missing some bottlenecks that you would encounter if you approached Munich from Ulm on the A8

Thanks for that Michael, I remember going to Calais and then heading East towards Liege, Achen, Brussels etc and the A8 and A9 coming into the equation somewhere!!  For the most part it was autobahns I seem to remember and in June we didn't have many hold ups at all.  I think I might book a Sunday ferry back though as it is much nicer to drive on a Saturday than a Friday when the lorries are out in force!

Not sure we will get as far as Austria but with the rubbish weather here our intended destination of Pembrokeshire is now looking unlikely as two weeks in a wet tent aren't fun.

When do you depart for the UK again?  If you are still around I might come and look you up, doubtless propping up the bar in the Sonnschein!!

Michael, one last thing, do you happen to have the route you use in Word format or similar or is it just so familiar now it is memorised!?  I have run it through the RAC planner and I think it comes out with something similar plus of course I have euro atlas and we have sat nav so no worries.  Given you are the connoisseur of Euro driving thought it was a question worth asking.  We really appreciate the time taken to answer my replies and the knowledge imparted.
