Hi All,

I have just managed to pick up a Vauxhall Frontera 2.2 Turbo Diesel.  Its in exceptional condition with full leather interior and all the mod cons.  Its a V reg ( October 1999 ).  It was £4000 which seams a good price from looking around.

I have one little problem with it ( which I was told about before I bought it ), and a couple of questions that someone may be able to answer.

The problem is that the speedo doesn't work.  The needle doesn't move at all.  I know that everything today is electronic, does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be.

Also, it has a towbar ( well almost ).  I can see a towbar fitted, with single electrics, but there is no towball.  Its seems to be removeable as it looks like something should slot into it that sort of bolts on.  Does anyone know if this is the case on these and where I can get the part with the towball that fits on from.  From looking at it it looks as though it would be a towball on a sort of bar that pushes in the hole and there should be a bolt or something going across.  I am not sure if this is a standard fitting but I have seen this on a couple of them where the towball is missing.

Lastly, it is an automatic, but there is a seperate manual type gearstick as well that says high and low on it.  I imagine this is for the 4x4.  How do you use this gearstick as I couldn't work out how you moved it.  I tried pushing and pulling it but it didn't move.

Any advice much appreciated.

-------------

the towball is a factory fitted one, I had the same problem when I had my frontera and ended up having a full towbar fitted as it was cheaper than buying the replacement ball from vauxhall. As for the speedo i am not sure and the hi-low stick, again, its a while ago now and I think i only used it once to try it in the snow.

The high low will be a gearbox ratio selector. Look for any distinguishing makers stamps on the body of the towbar. The speedo I'm not sure about but it may only be a faulty cable, or a cable not seated fully home. As mentioned above it may also be electronic (more than likely) and an independent auto electrician should be able to cast some light on the subject.

Would someone be kind enough to tell me how wide the Frontera's are? need to know if it would fit in my drive, thanks.

Yvonne.
