We're on our 8th van over a 12 year span (plus a tent) and I have loved evry one of them and been sad to see them go, we've changed them as our circumstances have changed ,kids grown and lost interest mostly, then we decided to have one with an end bathroom which was great....but being the sados that we are when we're not camping we spend our time looking in caravan dealers and our latest temptation was one with a fixed bed, keeping this one now definate .....  due to no cash! Barrons have got it all !!!     Rosie

Have had our caravan for two whole weeks now... 1984 Elddis...

Reading through this thread reminds me of that classic 'fools and horses' gag where Trigger gets his award for looking after his brush...

"Had the same caravan for thirty years now, only had two new bodies, a new chassis, wheels only been replaced eight times, interior only refitted twice... but apart from that it's the same van I bought all those years ago!"

Heehee...

I have had just 4 caravans in over 40 years of caravanning .The last one that I bought was a new Elddis Crusader Sirroco TA in 1994 and I still have it today .

We started caravaning just a couple of years ago were on our third van,the first one was just to see if we liked caravaning that we bought cheap, the second was alovely van big end bathroom but not much working space or storage space, then we saw our new van with a small bathroom but brilliant kitchen layout so we changed it after deciding we spend more time in the kitchen than the loo lol ...

Like it Skatty!  Reckon our Monty 6 has more space than a lot of vans.

When we first arrived back in England or Wales to be precise from South Africa I thought that people over here had to be daft to buy a caravan that they could onl use for about 3 -4 months of the year.  In 2004 I sucumbed aand bought a 1991 Eccles Opal and within 6 weeks we upgraded to a new Lunar CS.  Unfortunately this caravan spent more time in the delares than in the storage yard but at leasdt we could use it on weekends.

Eventually we got really p****d off with the hassle and traded it in on a Lunar 640 which we now use right through the year.  Except for one or two hassles it has really been a great caravan and has everything we need and will do us for the forseeable future.

However we are considering trading it in on a Hobby 650 UMFfe with air con etc.  Only reason more space, better quality and is residential.

Don't know if this counts but we also have a small Ranger 1998 470/4 that we use for weekends locally and have to say the Ranger is probably better built than the Lunar.

We've always been tenters until last year when health reasons meant that putting up and taking down the tent and packing and lifting kit became too difficult.  We bought a very old van last year to see if we would like it - and we did.

We have just come back from a trip in our new (to us) Buccaneer and it had everything we could ever want from a caravan.  We won't be changing it because it is the right one for us.  My daughter has the old one and she's absolutely delighted with it.

Now that we are older, we still want to enjoy the ambience of campsites and the freedom which goes alongside camping.  Getting a caravan was the logical thing to do if we wanted to continue with that lifestyle. I thought I would be envious of the tenters on the campsites we go to but surprisingly, I wasn't.

We bought a 1996 van 2 years ago, but the windows kept falling out. After the third window fell out  (and I was detailed to hold the bl***y thing horizontal while hub slid it into the slider/holder) we said....enuff........well, I said enuff. Or somat like that....

We bought a new one. Then the fridge vent fell off. Bl***y new caravans!!

Having been the proud joint-owner of a 1996 Swift Challenger 400SE for all of 26 hours now, I thought I'd put in my two-penn'orth. It's in incredible condition, not a mark on it, it's going to be loved and cherished and will be with us for years - hopefully!
