I have placed my caravan for sale on the free ads via this site. Recieved a message from a buyer who was interested however first time sold anything via internet and a bit wary as he is sending a cashires check, arranging for shipment for the van and says it is for a client anyone got any advice should i be worried or just sit back and wait for the check to arrive?

What to do I dont know!

Louby watch out for scamers. There was something on here a while ago warning about these people. Wait about and Im sure the webbies will be in with some advice.

Certainly do not let the van go without the cheque clearing and before that check that the funds cannot be drawn back after cashing.

I had no intention of letting it go before i saw the money and check clearing. I did read something but cant remember the ins and outs.

Think I may just push this sale to the side and stick with local buyers from the paper. I don't know something just dosnt seem right

Cheers!

we sold our campervan via the net and we would not accept a cheque or deposit, it was cash only if they really wanted it and the person we sold it to came all the way from cardiff

NOOOOO   this is very common a scam from abroad !!!!

think about it...if you were buying a 'van would you look for one in spain ?????????????

i had numerous responses to my ad for our f/c to ship abroad!!!1 they must think we are loopy and play on the fact that we probably really want to sell!!!!

do not part with anything until you have the cold hard cash in your hand!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou i think i have decided the details of the interested buyer via email are going in the trash can much safer to sell local and in no major rush to sell.

This is a common scam. Just ignore it. There are genuine buyers out there in cyberspace who will bring the cash to you as they will want to check the caravan over before parting with their hard earned.

Just ignore any from abroad who mention shipping.

I bought mine from an internet advert. I spoke to the seller on the phone and went to see it, agreed the sale and then went to collect a couple of days later with the cash.

I should trust your instincts and give this a wide berth. You can't be too careful these days.  I f they are genuine buyers they will wait until the cheque clears or give you a local Bankers Cheque.  I had a scammer offer me treble the price I was asking for an office chair I had for sale on the 'net', he also wanted to arrange transport without even looking at the chair! I politely refused the offer!

Hi, Louby, he wanted to buy our campervan too on the same terms! Don't touch him with the proverbial barge-pole.  I had the same offer from someone else - they are both from Yahoo email addresses - but I can't remember the name of the other one and I seem to have deleted it completely.

My OH was telling me the other day about something he'd read in the paper about a woman who sold something on these terms and the cheque bounced about three months later, despite the bank telling her it had cleared and she had handed over the goods. That sounded a bit far fetched but hopefully it may stop other people getting caught.

Good luck selling your van.

Nora

My rule of thumb is to say that if anyone outside the UK contacts me, they will be ignored, that was for selling the car though. Also check out the spelling etc, spot the obvious mistake with this one I recieved....

Hello,
I am interested in your classified advert listed for sale,
I will like to know if you still have it for sale
 Are you the first  owner?
Did you have all the paper work and the receipt of phurchase for documentation?
what is your last asking price and the present condition? Please email me back at your earliest conviniece your last
asking price, the area for the pick up and lastly the reason for offering it for sale.
My preffered method of payment is CERTIFIED CHEQUE IN GREAT BRITAIN POUNDS,which would CLEAR in your BANK ACCOUNT WITHIN 3 TO 4 WORKING DAYS.
I will wait to hear from you soonest.
Cheers
White

Great Britain Pounds, never heard of it, obviously this person is not in the uk, should it not read "pound sterling " ?

Good luck with the sale
