Hi all,

My husband has been told by a friend from work that the purple line hitch drives are really good for moving your caravan, without the need for reversing. I searched out previous posts to find that 99% of responses are negative. Does anyone have these and have any positive comments. Just to put my husband's mind at rest and save us spending 200 quid!!

I have one and use it to move a 1500 kgs caravan around my drive.

I reverse our van onto the drive, then use the Hitchdrive to position the caravan up the corner about 1 inch away from a wall, about 12 foot in total. You need to be fit to use it, with the weight of our caravan anything less than a perfect surface, with the slightest slope and the Hitchdrive tyres don’t grip.

I have had it two years but will be surprised if it lasts another two years, I am on my second set of tyres.

I wouldn’t buy another new one, but I would buy a secondhand one as there seem to a lot of people who have bought them used them once and want to sell them, although the two hundred quid it cost has possibly already being saved as I would have damaged the caravan bumping in to things trying to position it by hand.

Difficult one to call, but what other options are there in this price bracket.

I totally back what Irogers says about needing the surface to be completely flat and solid with absolutely no loose stones etc.  I bought one for my FC, when I had it, that weighed 750kgs empty and the hitchdrive would'nt shift it even 1/2" on a very gentle sloping drive with semi hard surface.  The FC was empty too!

It was a total waste of money but I was lucky enough to find someone who wanted one to move a car trailer on a totally flat and hard drive.  Interesting to note that the company who sold me the hitchdrive, and Purpleline themselves, could'nt care less that I had problems with it.  It seemed a case of 'got your money, it's your problem not ours'.

Jazzycats.

wouldn't waste my money again, no good for one person to use on their own as you can't be at the front slowly turning the handle and watching where its going if you're trying to "park" it - we had it on a folding camper too...it was very heavy and fiddly to change the wheel fixture to the perm parker one too....

Thanks everyone, think we'll give that one a miss.

It's our secoond season with the van and we've had no problems so far - don't want to create any :-)
