Hi Folks,

The clear plastic strip that is sewn into the bottom of the curtains that holds the 'sliders' which fit into the bottom curtain rail has cracked and split in our 'van....does anyone know where we can get a replacement strip? - We have been in every haberdashery in town, and also tried the caravan accessories store on the way home but neither supplied it. Any ideas?

Here's a photo of the strip in question.

Thanks.

Try here, Grub - they have it. I'm sure I've seen it in some dealers as well, sold by the metre - you could try ringing around your local ones.

Hi Grub

Is it split all the way along? Ours had about 4 or 5 "poppers" pulled off at each side, but I went for a repair, rather than repace the full strip

I heated a straightened paperclip and melted 2 tiny holes either side of each "popper" then stitched them back into place with some matching thread.

Only takes a few minutes for each one and saves having to replace the whole strip.

HTH

Paul

What you`re looking for is visa tape. You can get it on ebay. This is the cheapest I`ve seen someone selling it.

Thanks guys for the info,

As usual you can't ask for the wrong thing on this site!

I think it must be a time or sun issue with the visa strip as the whole strip has become fragile and brittle. The mrs is a dab hand with the sewing machine so should'nt take her a couple of minutes to sew on new strips.

Thanks for the ebay link kev!

All the best.

I heated a straightened paperclip and melted 2 tiny holes either side of each "popper" then stitched them back into place with some matching thread.

Wish I had thought of this when I did mine. I bought about 6 meters of popper tape, then I realised that my sewing machine would probably not cope with the plastic so decided to hand sew new ones on. I only replaced those that were damaged but my poor hands really suffered. They are already shot through years of sewing, knitting and now computing!!!

I wouldn't care but I have mended loads of things in my van using a hot needle or hot screw driver (blind catches etc).

I love this site. It's full of clever people!!
