hi.

has anyone out there in caravan land got any good ideas for repairing the outer skin of vans ?

ours is a 94 trophy royal ascot 560/4 only just bought the thing and this weekend has been  a strip down inside and out due to finding damp in the front right hand corner. have removed and resealed tha awning rail and while doing this today i have discovered two small holes about the size of a pea each. the surrounding area of these holes are powdery and i suspect i really dont want to dig too much. anyway, the point of this rambling is to ask if any of you guys has any good tips for sorting this annoying problem.....thanking you in advance..( by the way it has to be finished by 20th august  )

Ali is a funny thing to mess with but you can repair it easy you will need to clean out all the dry powder and rot. Then you need to treat the area with alichrome to kill off all fungus that eating in to ali panel. leave the alichrome on for 5 mins then rinse off with cleam water and dry..Tip apply the alichrome with a brush and place a tissue over the hole and dab the tissue with the brush, you get a more even coating this way.

Then make sure its dry and then dimple the skin around the hole and fill with car body filler, the plastic padding is best for this job.

Then just smooth and restore paint finish, or better stil apply a graphic or decal if you can this will seal it as well as cover the repair..

Flack.

Hi ddc , just read Flacks fix for holes in the skin , sounds a good way to me , i did my hole repairs by using " Gripfill " on the inside and Sealastik on the outside . Though that was some time ago , and now i'd probably use Flacks idea .

Where abouts are your holes in the caravan skin , ie just below the awning rail ?

As you've realised a damp caravan can be fixed , and we'll be here to advise you when you need us . Good luck with your repair .
