Only just got back from a holiday in Belgium and France, and I have to tell you it was the best ever! The trip from Hull (despite the fact I had a 7 hour drive to get there!)was fabulous, the camp site in Belgium was just excellent, and our second site in Normandy was out of this world!. I just cannot wait to get back there, and indeed her indoors is already planning next years trip!.....roll on!

Hi

I am thinking seriously about Belgium this year where did you stay, was there anything for teenagers to do? How long was the journey when at the other side, what sort of cost did you incur for the ferry and the site, did you book through the CC or did you go it alone? Lots of questions hope you dont mind me being nosey! Sounds like you had a great time!

Jaybee

Hi Jaybee,
I would not hesitate to recommend Belgium, not too sure about things to do for teenagers though!, depends what they are into I suppose. We stayed in the kompass camping site in Outtenarde, it is only a 50 Km ( around 30 miles) drive from the ferry terminal in Zeebrugge.

We booked everything through the Caravan and camping club.

Our total cost for car, caravan, four adults and one infant, inside 4 berth cabin on the outward journey, outside four berth on the return, four night fees in Belgium and five nights in Normandy came to just over £600.

You are correct, we had a GREAT time!

Cheers,

Paul.
P.S. ask as many questions as you like!

On reflection Jaybee, we did make one bloomer! the drive from Oudenarde in Belgium to the site in Normandy was a tad over 300 miles, we did it in one day, which to be honest is a bit too much. Also, on the road down to Normandy I programmed Tom Tom to avoid toll roads and the journey took us almost 10 hours!, on the road back to Zeebrugge I programmed toll roads in, and saved 2 and a half hours, but spent around 25 quid on toll fees!........we live and learn!

We live close to Hull. I would say it will be the same as last yeay when we last sailed from there. It was free to take a caravan on sundays. Half of the traffic was caravans. Food on the boat very good value. Buffet style, eat what and how much you like. Good nights sleep, breakfast time then prepared for the journey next morning.
