Hi, we are new to caravaning and would appreciate some help with putting the awning up.The roof poles we have are fitted with rubber cups at one end, but I have been told that some poles are fitted with hooks which attach to the caravan.Could somebody advise me which is the best method and can we buy these hooks to go on the end of existing poles.

We much appreciate any help.

My dads awning uses the rubber cups and he has no problems whatsoever with that system.  The ones with the hooks either have to have fixings attached to the caravan or a special fixing system on the awning.  Ours has the special awning fixings but these are only on fairly new awnings.  I would give it a try with the rubber pads, as I said my dad has those and his awning stays up for weeks at a time in all weathers with no problems.

we had an awning with the suction cups once. we were on a seasonal pitch and the awning stayed up for six months, no problem. you'd have to drill holes in the caravan to fix the brackets to the van to use the hooks on the poles.

Our awning (Pyramid Corsican) has the fixings that attach onto the awning, and then go onto hooks at the end of the poles.  I didn't like the idea of the ones that needed brackets drilling onto side of caravan!

But on our old van, that had the poles with rubber suction cups at the end.  Not got any preference between the two - but I suppose the fixings on our new awning seem a bit more sturdy than those on the old awning.
