I thought you could find all the information you need on their site at http://www.thiefbeaters.co.uk. We have it already fitted to our 'new' second-hand van, which consists of the additional serial number markings as stated above, but also hidden electronic serial tags and corner steady locks. To quote from their brochure "A unique TB number will be assigned to your property. It will be applied in up to 50 random locations and everyone will be recorded. Electronic tags and microdots are also fitted and again their location accurately recorded. With Thiefbeaters Gold we fit mechanical corner steady locks for added security."
With Thiefbeaters 'Platinum' you also get a tracking device fitted. I think the Gold package is around the £300 mark and an additional £500 for the tracking service. It also costs £30 annually to maintain the registration.
Is it worth it? Well, having everything marked (we keep spotting additional number locations) - and stickers clearly stating the van is marked, will hopefully put of the thieves. As we also have the corner steady locks, it should make it a lot harder for them. We got a discount from the associated insurer Bakers of Cheltenham for having this lot and it was cheaper than the C.C. We had used Bakers previously and they were very good, so we were happy with this.
the electronic tag is like a ;ittle white credit card that is stuck to the inside of your front panel above the grab handles next to the window
a hand held scanner is run over area and gives a number much like microchips for dogs the police are supposed use them on traveler sites or horse shows but i dont know if they do
when we fitted new front panels to accident damaged vans we had to remove them from old panel and fit to new one
of course they are only any use if the van is checked with the scanner
