We have new for old on our van , awning etc, covering up to £16500 in total, plus the usual liability stuff , and that is to be £375 on renewal in 2 weeks time.
hi ,i stand corrected maybe, because i think you will find it hard to insure a caravan in France from here in england.from what i have read a few times is the people insure the van in France when they go over.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
So that is not new for old then? You can get that with CC for up to 10 years but it does cost more. You have to insure for replacement value. You need to add on for any extras over the standard spec and remember Aquaroll etc, gas bottles, outside furniture, awning if you use one, mover if you have one etc. We do not cover contents otherwise (clothes,TV etc) as that is covered under our house insurance.
You need to join the Club to get the insurance, but you can get a quote on-line. There is an alarm discount, and it also depends on your postcode. There is also a NCD and variable excesses.
Give it a try and see what it spits out!
we just got same van new from robinsons in chesterfield i was with E and L but they would not insure my new van because it had no alarm fitted i am now insured with shield cost £259 if that is any help to you great van isn't it we took it to france the day we picked it up
hi i'm really glad about these posts about E&L because it was me that last year posted a thread about the problems we had when we got our six week old van pinched....the problem is the hoops they require you to jump through are hidden away in the small print and if you do not comply they do not pay...anything at all...unlike the ccc who even if you leave your wheel clamp and hitch lock off there is an excess and they pay the majority of the claim...i reported E&L to the FSA as i felt the definitions were designed not to pay out...they appear to have changed since then but i cannot stress enough to pass the word on to anyone in caravanning to avoid E&L..the stress it caused to us just isn't worth the extra few pounds of shopping around....john
------------- watch out there's scumbag pikey thieves about......keep it safe
I only spotted E & L posting by chance, hence my concerns and judging by the comments I have seen I am glad I asked the question. I take delivery of my new caravan on Wednesday and will be using Caravan Guard. £340 for a £11,000 van and we have paid extra for a PIR/Tilt alarm as well as the standard stuff you have to lock it up with.which judging by comments about how other members are paying similar for larger values. However, I assume as because I have no caravan insurance history hence no claims this amount will drop with a year or two behind me.
we bought a 2 year old caravan from barrons last year ,and we used e+l insurance ,the caravan was stolen in may last year and e+l won't pay out using the excuse that it wasn't kept in a secure compound even though i fully explained where it was kept and that it had a hitch lock and wheel clamp fitted,
they told me over the phone that as long as the clamps were fitted that i was fully insured, but when the caravan was stolen told me that the small print stated it must be in a compound with cctv ,when i stated what i had been told over the phone from e+l ,their coment was that they wouldn't say such a thing, strage that they didn'y have a record of the conversation eh???
