Hi

New to caravanning but want to buy either a sun canopy or a porch awning but dont no which. We want something real easy to put up and thought a sun canopy and a wind breaker might be easiest but reading some of the info on porch awnings they seems pretty easy to put up to.  What are porch awning like in windy weather.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Rachel.  In windy weather there's no real comparison.  A sun canopy will be a problem in windy weather and can cause damage, whereas a porch is usually fairly reliable - at least ours is.  We use our sun canopy only when we're sure(ish) about the weather.  We have a Bradcot porch and its quite straight forward to put up.

If you are going abroad with your van tho a sun canopy really comes into its own.

Anne

PS You've chosen a good year to start caravanning!!!

Take a squiz on here, 26 it's a start.

But there's loads too choose from on the market. See the recent thread entitled 'What's the smallest awning' where I put several piccies and details of things I'd found. If you just do a 'view messages since yesterday' you'll spot it.

There's also a canopy type on that thread too called the Fiamma Caravanstore which is a roll out one like those often seen on the side of Motorhomes.

Have to say that with regards to the bog standard porch awnings, (i.e. Dorema, coz that's the make of our full size one), I was gobsmacked at how pricey many of them are! Was only about £100 different with some of 'em!

You could also see some on 26 too

This was our set up last year with the porch on one side and the Caravanstore with Gazebo side panels. We now have the Caravanstore "Zip" but normally only have that up on its own on the doorside.

You have to be careful with the Caravanstore to avoid denting the sides of the van,

If you look to the left of the pic you can see how easy HRH finds putting  them up.

I can do both unassisted (and do !!!)

Note UKCS pennant

We go to this site every year and they just charge for the pitch

This year we stayed 5 weeks but they didn't charge for the first 3 nights before the rally began.

Usually we have the "Zip" on the door side.

The porch awning is 5 years old but has only been used for 20 weeks
