Hi all,  can anyone out there help with my little problem, which is im goin away 22nd july to cornwall & thought it would be nice to take the bikes with us so thought i would get a roof mounted cycle carrier to put the 4 bikes on the roof rack so we can drive somewhere then take bikes off roof rack then have a nice bike ride but having just been to halfords the man in the know there told me i would not get 4 bikes on my vectra roof rack,   so i cant do that but think if i put the bikes on a rear mounted cycle rack it mite be too much weight on the back of the car when towing the van aswell,

  Any advise greatfully recieved

   cheers eddy & co

Eddy,

As long as you dont exceed the max weight for the bars, you could place two carriers facing the front and two face the rear.

Hope it helps.

Gary

On the roof depends on the weight of the bikes and rack.  The typical roof weight limit is 75kg.  If the bikes are light weight you may get them up there. They will need to go fwd facing / rear facing alternate across.

We have a rear mounted rack, not towbar mounted, and get a couple of adults bike on it.  The wifes old bike weighed in at least 40lbs. Cleareance between them and the van is okay on sharp turns.

You could put a couple of bikes in the van wrapped in a blanket/old quilt or someting to stop them damaging the van.

Eddy don't know if you've bought your bars yet, if not look up, roofbox.co.uk saved me a few quid on halfords.   bars and 4 bike carriers £120, delivered within 2 days, I'm alternating the ways the bikes face to get them to fit on mine.

Hi all,  sorry not replied before now, but i fetched the cycle racks from halfords yesterday fitted them today 2 facing forward 2 facing back put the bikes on to make sure about spacing tightened the racks down secured the bikes then went for a test drive to make sure everything ok, ive checked my car hand book & it says i can have 100kgs on the roof sure im within that limit as dont think each bike is as heavy as a bag of spuds (25kg) now just waiting for saturday morning when we are off...

  thanks for all your replies...

 cheers eddy & co
